It is important that I responsibly and reliably ensure that a student can turn to me for help apart from their school teachers/parents. Parents have an expectation for me to do my job to a certain standard, which I have a duty to provide to them such extents. Not every student thinks the same, they have different strengths and weaknesses and I…

The most important thing for a tutor is that they explicitly explain concepts to a student. This should be done in a way that makes the most intuitive sense to the student. Also, for me, it is essential that a tutor, as well as teaching students, teaches them how to study by themselves and how to teach themselves. This should be done by providing…

The most important thing a tutor can give a student is confidence in their capabilities, As one of my tutors did for me. It is really really important to make the students feel confident when they are right and not making them feel like they did something wrong. My strengths lie in being patient and understanding while being fully immersed in…

Tutoring is about building a relationship with the student based on trust and respect, making the student feel comfortable enough to ask questions, express their concerns and doubts, which was a key aspect for me when I was learning. Over time, I have learnt that my enthusiasm for the subject is contagious, it kindles a love for the subject in the…

It is most important that a tutor doesn't give up on their students. This means not only continuing teaching the student but also means that the tutor should always believe a student can improve with their guidance. In addition, it is essential for a tutor to be able to learn the student's strengths and weaknesses and their way of thinking, so the…

I think it is important for tutors to show patience and understanding towards students. It can be frustrating when one struggles to understand a new concept and I want to ensure that the student finds enjoyment in their work rather than a sense of dread toward it. Therefore, I highly emphasize an approach of patience to foster safe and enjoyable…

Definitely to be patient and to never assume knowledge as known or simple. Further to focus on not just content, but also mark schemes for maximum success. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is aid them in being confident enough to always attempt a problem. A great tutor helps a student to put aside the "oh no, I don't know what to do" thought or feeling and and least try to break the problem into something they do know how to do. My strengths as a tutor come in my genuine passion…

Building their confidence first. A student who believes they can improve will put in the effort. Beyond that, teach them how to think through problems independently so they don't need you forever. And really listen to where they're struggling because what a student says they don't understand and what they actually don't understand are often two…

Help them understand the concept in class. Teaching them how to do question is not enough, instead teaching them how it work and how to deal with it basic. I believe that a tutor must be able to provide the students with what they need. This means assessing the student's abilities and determining key weaknesses. Since not all students are the same, a successful tutor must be able to decide strategies that are suited for each individual student. I am adaptable and resourceful, so I can adjust myself…

Bring them self-confidence. Because as a former student, this is the most important thing I got from my tutor. Students who take tuition often do so because they lack confidence in their grades, or even receive pressure from others such as parents, and so can become agitated or even bored with their studies, and thus engage in self-denial. If you…

A tutor needs to be patient and build a healthy learning curve. One of the most important things for a tutor is to be encouraging and positive. Negativity can lead to resentment towards a subject and deflect the student from making a genuine effort to learn. A tutor also needs to be well-versed with the material so they can teach the student as…

The most important aspect of a tutor is able to communicate clearly to students. Not only that we need to be knowledgeable, we also need to be able to support with younger students who have hard time solving problems. I think the most important thing that a tutor can do is be supportive. Students are already frustrated when they do not understand something, hence we do not need to add to that by being frustrated at them. In addition, a tutor needs to be flexible. This allows one to better tailor the program to the student's needs and the student's strengths. I…

Inside EnmoreTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Avi reviewed trigonometry, focusing on applying sine, cosine, and tangent rules to non-right-angled triangles before analysing an English poster for visual techniques.

Year 11 student Luke revisited key syllabus topics by working through past papers and clarifying concepts he found confusing in preparation for upcoming assessments.

For a Year 6 student, multiplication skills and reading comprehension were practised together using short passages and targeted questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Science, one student failed to recognise techniques shown from previous session in exam question, showing that feedback was not being fully used when tackling unfamiliar problems.

In Year 11 Chemistry, notes highlighted ongoing avoidance of memorising polyatomic ions—this gap repeatedly disrupted progress during practice exams and dented confidence.

A Year 10 English student struggled with organizing PETEL essays and rarely completed writing outside lessons, which left written responses feeling underdeveloped.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner's work became hard to follow when multiplication steps were skipped for speed, leading to confusion and slower correction during the session.

Recent Achievements

One Enmore tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student's essay writing: after struggling to organise his ideas, Avi can now independently complete PETEL paragraphs that actually make sense on paper.

Another high schooler, Luke, who previously hesitated with diagram questions in Economics, is now confidently applying diagrams to different scenarios during lessons without prompting.

In primary maths, Zoe—who used to freeze up at the mention of times tables—now works through number pattern formulas and even tackles basic algebra when given just a gentle nudge from her tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Stanmore Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like The Athena School.
