Help them overcome challenges, sometimes if something makes no sense it needs to be explained in a different way. A tutor can understand the personal needs of the child as well as understanding the material and use this to approach learning in a way which will be most helpful for the student. I also study psychology so in that we do learn about…

I think the most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to listen. It is important for a tutor to build a relationship with the students so that tutoring sessions don't become a chore, and the student feels comfortable seeking help with things in these sessions. Thus, I think that listening to and responding to the needs of the…

I understand the struggles of high school students - the anxiety of asking questions and the lack motivation to learn. Inside FaddenTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Daniel focused on solving linear equations and practiced substitution methods for simultaneous equations, using worked examples to reinforce understanding.

In Year 10, Chloe revised quadratic graphs and equations, learning to identify features of parabolas from their algebraic forms.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Jamie worked through area calculations for composite shapes and circles, with step-by-step guidance on decomposing complex figures into simpler parts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student hadn't done any independent revision for her upcoming exam—her tutor noted, "we need to work on building independent study as a habit," especially for earlier topics.

In Year 10 maths, one student struggled to identify and prepare the specific "Pattern Tests" he found challenging, often coming into sessions without clear focus or examples.

At the primary level, a Year 4 learner repeatedly got distracted during lessons and needed stricter redirection just to complete homework ("got really distracted, needed to be a bit stricter to get him back on track"). This led to missed practice opportunities and unfinished tasks.

Recent Achievements

One Fadden tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who used to quietly muddle through tricky maths problems; now, she openly asks when confused and confidently tells the tutor which parts need more explanation.

In a recent high school session, another student who'd struggled to keep track of algebra steps started writing out each process on cards—and by the end was solving equations independently using notes.

Meanwhile, in Year 3, one student who always counted on fingers managed all his addition under a timer without needing that crutch and fixed his usual mistake with number 11.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Erindale Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Fadden Primary School.
