I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student's confidence, explain concepts in a way that suits their learning style, and create a supportive environment where they feel comfortable asking questions. It's not just about giving them the answers, it's about helping them understand the process so they can become…

Some of the most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to motivate them to think on their own, build their confidence and create an environment where they are not scared to ask questions. Being able to quickly modify my approach to meet the needs of each student is one of my skills as a tutor because I am aware that not everyone…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to guide them towards the right path in their studies. This may include productive habits such as doing homework or even something as simple as asking for help when they're stuck. Instilling habits like these will enable them to move on their own once they're older. I consider myself to be…

The obvious impact is to help them learn and understand the concepts covered in class as well as practice vital skills in preparation for them. I also believe that it is a tutors role to create a safe, respectful environment, built on mutual understanding and without judgement. Tutors must build the confidence of their students - they can't just teach them the content and expect them to be able to do it on their own - its more than that. A good tutor needs to build the childs confidence so they know they can answer a question. I can do this, I am the type of tutor that wants to support students to do their best and to…

I consider the ability to create good habits from a young age as one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. However, for older students, it’s also very important to make sure that your students are completing the work to their full ability. It’s important as a tutor, to be able to help them through this and help support…

To truly understand the most efficient way to teach a student is the best gift you can give a student. Help them also learn their study method that works and helps them through their school career. Support and guidance are vital to a students experience through education. While some need small levels of prompting or an extra pair of eyes to overlook work, some students may benefit from additional teachings outside of the traditional classroom to boost their sense of understanding in a more individual-focused lesson. Inside Fairfield HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Andrew worked through different subtraction strategies and tackled word problems involving money, as well as breaking numbers into tens and ones to start the topic of length using tables.

In Year 9, Ethan focused on solving equations with brackets on both sides and practiced algebraic fraction equations, then moved into identifying trigonometric ratios in triangles.

For Year 10, Jade revised quadratic equations—using factorising—and worked with surface area and volume by calculating perimeters and areas for composite shapes such as rectangles and triangles.

Recent Challenges

Homework completion was a recurring issue across several years.

For example, a Year 9 student "attempted homework minutes before our session—only half was completed, the rest forgotten."

In senior levels, students preparing for trigonometry or algebra tests sometimes left revision incomplete, leading to last-minute stress and gaps in recall ("was only notified during class that a yearly exam was occurring tomorrow").

Fatigue and lack of motivation were common in Years 10–12, with one tutor noting, "He was very tired and lost focus multiple times; homework was not attempted."

Missed assignments often meant less time spent on feedback and consolidation.

Recent Achievements

One Fairfield Heights tutor noticed a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to ask for clarification now comfortably brings up questions during lessons, making it easier to address misunderstandings on the spot.

In Year 8 maths, a student managed to complete all their homework this week and caught most of their earlier errors without prompting—something they struggled with last term.

Meanwhile, a primary school student finally worked through subtraction strategies independently after weeks of needing step-by-step guidance; this time, he finished the worksheet on his own without waiting for hints from the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Smithfield Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Gertrude's Catholic Primary School.
