The most important thing for a tutor is to be an individual that students can openly and freely talk to other than being able to give knowledge. Allowing students to feel understood helps them overcome thoughts of self doubt which can help further their advancement academically and to help them in their well-being. My strength is organising and…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student's confidence, explain concepts clearly, and encourage independent thinking. A tutor should not just give answers, but help the student understand the process behind the answer. This allows the student to improve their problem-solving skills and become more confident in…

In mi opinion, a tutor should take care of the students in terms of ensuring that they understand each one of the concepts and topics explained. He/she should not hesitate in repeating an explanation as many times as necessary if the student doesn't understand any topic. After finishing my bachelor in Aerospace engineering and some international…

The best thing a teacher can do to a student is to adapt to student's learning style. I have experienced that every student learn differently, some are visual, some hands-on discussion based and some with stories. A great tutor identifies how each student learns fast and adjust their approach accordingly. I have emotional intelligence to learn…

Teachers are considered as one of the people who shape someone's future or career. By giving good pieces of advice by basing myself on my personal experience as a student, I'll make sure that the student is always on the right track. I'll try to inspire students regularly by for example talking about awesome stuffs in science and maths which would…

I think that being patient and empathetic are two of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. Listening empathetically to a student can help a tutor to understand the way that the student thinks. In turn, the student feels understood and real improvements can be made. Patience is important for many reasons in tutoring. In my…

Listen to what the student actually wants help with and find out the root cause of why they are stuck or confused. The teacher needs to work together with the student, not against them. Build real understanding rather than memorisation, and build the student's confidence alongside it. My personal measure of whether a student has actually learned something is whether they could turn around and explain it to someone else. It would be empathy, in my opinion. I am aware that there are intelligent people who are easily able to surpass me in knowledge, but I believe that to effectively teach and learn, one must have a sufficient level of empathy. One need not always be a great teacher to be a great intellect. My capacity for empathy is unmatched. I can put myself in…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is build a student’s confidence and adapt lessons to their learning style. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence while helping them develop genuine understanding. This means not just giving answers, but guiding them through the thinking process so they can solve problems independently. A good tutor also creates a supportive and structured environment, sets clear expectations,…

Inside FlemingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alice worked on calculating mean, median, mode, and range in statistics as well as identifying angles with symmetry using visual examples.

In Year 9, Bita practised solving linear equations and worked through a worksheet on mean, median and mode provided by her teacher.

For Year 10, Laura focused on revising algebra and graphing techniques from the Year 11 curriculum to strengthen her foundation for upcoming studies.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing for a statistics test hesitated to share which probability topics felt hardest, making it difficult to target weak spots; her notebook was also missing dates, so tracking progress became confusing.

In Year 9 algebra, as one tutor put it, "he skipped showing steps in simplification, which hid sign errors"—extra time was then spent hunting mistakes instead of building confidence.

A Year 7 student left homework incomplete before lessons and struggled with organizing exercise books and teacher feedback requests.

During Year 12 revision, reluctance to attempt unfamiliar graph questions led to gaps ahead of the upcoming test.

Recent Achievements

One Flemington tutor noticed a big change in a Year 11 student who used to freeze up on tough algebra questions—now, after working through some challenging Further Maths problems, he confidently explained his reasoning and tackled even the trickiest ones without hesitation.

In another session, a Year 9 student who'd struggled to distinguish between explanatory and response variables was able to clearly verbalise his thought process and correctly identify each one during practice.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who once guessed at answers now talks through her multiplication steps out loud and checks her work before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Flemington Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kensington Community High School.
