Giving a student freedom to think and question are most important things a tutor should do, additionally not restricting students to one method and a rigid way should be the priority. Teaching being my abosolute favourite thing is my strength also knowing the subjects deeply adds to it. I have been tutoring children from class 1 to 5 in india and…

Make sure they learn the work in a way that they understand and set the student up for long term success both in the subject I will tutor them in and in life. I have recently studied and developed my knowledge around the subjects I tutor. So I have an understanding of them and the learning process a student goes through, allowing me to shift the…

I think one of the most important traits a tutor needs is patience. It is not helpful to make the student feel stupid or inadequate and of course each student is unique and learns at a different pace. Patience is pivotal to make the student feel like it is a safe space to ask questions, be willing to rephrase concepts until they understand and…

My strengths are definitely communication and interpersonal skills, adding an element of trust, comfort and engagement compared to a more robotic tutor. I have…

I value creating "WOW" moments for students. As stated previously, I find it extremely satisfying to witness that 'lightbulb' moment when students finally understand a hard area of the syllabus or how to answer a difficult question. I also think it is important that tutors stretch and challenge their students. This can be achieved by getting…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is help a student solve their problems not just by giving them answers, but by guiding them to understand the process so they can do it on their own. It’s about building confidence and independence. I think my strengths as a tutor are that I’m smart and genuinely dedicated to helping my student…

I believe the best thing a tutor can do for a student is to not only develop their understanding of a subject but teach each lesson in specific ways designed for different students. Different methods are useful in order to best involve students and encourage them to want to be there to learn rather than for it to feel like a chore. I believe i’m…

Inside FreshwaterTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Morgan worked on long division with remainders and began simplifying fractions, focusing on how improper and proper fractions differ.

In Year 8, Zane practised applying negative indices within algebraic expressions and solved problems involving gradients in linear graphs.

Year 9 student Seth tackled advanced algebra topics such as expanding brackets and equations with variables on both sides, alongside revision of circular geometry using targeted practice questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Maths, one student showed a tendency to skip showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors—this made it hard to spot where things went wrong and meant repeated mistakes in multi-step problems.

For a Year 8 student, lack of confidence led them to hesitate before answering statistics questions, even when their reasoning was correct; this slowed progress and left answers unchecked.

In Year 5 English, another learner struggled to extract key points from reading tasks—often missing main ideas because smaller details became distracting.

In each case, the underlying process habits interrupted feedback and caused frustration during review.

Recent Achievements

One Freshwater tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who, after lots of targeted practice, now pinpoints where he goes wrong in chemistry problems and can quickly fix his own mistakes—something he used to avoid tackling independently.

In Year 9 maths, another student has become much faster at answering questions accurately and now volunteers for harder problems without waiting to be prompted, showing real initiative compared to earlier sessions.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who previously hesitated during reading is now extracting key points from stories by herself and happily explains them aloud after finishing each passage.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Warringah Mall Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School.
