I think the most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to not only understand where the student is at within their academics, but in their personal life as well. A student's schooling can be very stressful and there is a lot of pressure from others. My role would be to make sure that I am not pressuring them, and that we reward…

A tutor in my perspective must be flexible and must be willing to offer any form of support, I.e. helping solve problems, explain concepts in detail, clear misconceptions, etc. Also it is important always maintains a positive attitude and encourages students to learn more. I also think an english tutor should be able to provide their students with…

The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to give them the ability to take what they learn in the classroom outside of school. By teaching students the skills as well as the content, students will have the freedom to further pursue their interests. A passion for the subject material, the patience and communication skills…

The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to understand the needs of their student and develop effective resources that work for THAT student. It is also important to recognise what kind of work load people are capable of handling so that you do not overwhelm them with tasks, as this would be counterproductive. So I guess,…

A tutor needs to be their every week and ontime. A tutor must plan lessons that meet the needs and goals of the student. A tutor must be able to assess the strengths and weaknesses of a student and plan the lesson and the program so the student can meet the learning needs of the student. Knowing the student. Assessing strengths and weaknesses…

I believe the most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is learning to adapt. Each students brain is wired completely different, and in school, there’s not always an opportunity to work one on one. So it’s crucial for a tutor to observe their students strengths and weaknesses, and use that to progress their learning. I am…

The most important things an english tutor can do for a student are to offer encouragement, build trust and provide clear explanations. It is essential that a safe space is created for the student to ask questions and make mistakes. This will ultimately allow students to effectively engage with the material provided by taking risks with their…

While it is important that students are achieving the marks they want, this is only half of the game. As a tutor, I want to be able to maximise their performance but also teach them the fundamental skills that come along with achieving success. Things like consistency, discipline and a growth mindset aren’t part of any NSW syllabus, but is apart…

Abhishek is a very calm and patient tutor, he works well with my son at my son's pace and it is proving invaluable in helping my son clarify things which he has found hard at school. My son is incredibly motivated now that he feels he is making progress in maths.

Inside Glenning ValleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Jayden worked on perimeter and area of rectangles, using diagrams to reinforce understanding, and also interpreted data with stem and leaf plots.

Year 8 student Ella tackled linear equations by rearranging formulas and explored like terms within algebraic expressions.

For Year 10, Harry focused on compound interest calculations and examined real-life applications of depreciation as part of his recent exam review.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 mathematics, one student avoided writing down working for algebra and geometry tasks, saying "I can do this in my head," which led to confusion when errors appeared—especially with negative numbers.

A Year 11 student often left revision of modules until just before tests, making it difficult to target weak areas during sessions.

In primary maths (Year 5), missed homework on fractions meant key practice was skipped, slowing progress on decimals the following week.

Meanwhile, a senior physics student rarely proofread written responses, so unclear explanations remained uncorrected after feedback.

Recent Achievements

One Glenning Valley tutor noticed a real shift in Jayden, a high school student who now stops and checks his work when he makes mistakes with big number multiplication—something he used to rush through without noticing errors.

Frankie, also in high school, has started creating her own examples when learning new maths concepts, showing initiative that wasn't there before; she even asks for clarification right away if she gets stuck rather than staying quiet.

Meanwhile, Anureet in primary school had been struggling with 11 times tables above 10Ă—11 but mastered them confidently after explanation and then aced every question during practice.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bateau Bay Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Berkeley Vale Public School.
