I think the most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to not only understand where the student is at within their academics, but in their personal life as well. A student's schooling can be very stressful and there is a lot of pressure from others. My role would be to make sure that I am not pressuring them, and that we reward…

The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to understand the needs of their student and develop effective resources that work for THAT student. It is also important to recognise what kind of work load people are capable of handling so that you do not overwhelm them with tasks, as this would be counterproductive. So I guess,…

A tutor needs to be their every week and ontime. A tutor must plan lessons that meet the needs and goals of the student. A tutor must be able to assess the strengths and weaknesses of a student and plan the lesson and the program so the student can meet the learning needs of the student. Knowing the student. Inside Long JettyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ben practised multiplication and division using different visual strategies and worked on understanding subtraction fundamentals.

In Year 11, Olivia focused on coordinate geometry and trigonometry by solving application questions with diagrams to support reasoning.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student James tackled Chemistry concepts like equilibrium and solubility product calculations alongside advanced Mathematics topics including integration techniques and probability scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Physics, a student's written responses became overly long and disorganized; as one tutor noted, "answers are way too extensive," making revision difficult.

In Year 8 Maths, a student struggled to start unfamiliar problems, often needing to reread the textbook before attempting questions.

Anxiety under timed conditions led another high schooler to lose focus during assessments.

For a Year 4 reading task, motivation dipped when tackling non-fiction texts—writing quickly resulted in spelling errors and missing key details.

During primary maths revision, not writing down working meant important steps were forgotten by the next session.

Recent Achievements

A Long Jetty tutor recently noticed Mohit, a high school student, shifting from quietly listening to actively asking questions whenever he's unsure—something he hesitated to do just weeks ago.

In Year 11 chemistry, he also started working out tough concepts on his own before checking with the tutor, showing much more independence than at the start of term.

Meanwhile, Amari in Year 5 moved past guessing through multiplication and now recites his 2 and 3 times tables smoothly without prompts.

Charlie, in early primary, read a full Dr Seuss book aloud after refusing longer stories last month.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as The Entrance Library & Council Services—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Primary School.
