The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make a student enjoy the subject that they are teaching. This will give the students a bigger incentive to try and learn the subject for their self, as well as have more fun and eagerness in learning the subject. I try and cater more towards the things that my students are not as good at,…

It's to be able to notice the reasons behind my students' struggle and find out the right method and the right way to help them make adjustments and become better at it. It's clear that I am not sort of an expert in the subjects that my students are struggling with, but I would undoubtedly do my best to get them better, including flexibly doing…

I believe a good tutor needs to connect with the student and understand their student’s capability so that the student can be guided and helped to revive their performance in the classroom. Tutors must teach at the pace of their students and must tailor methods of teaching for that individual student specifically. A tutor needs to be friendly as…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to empathise with the student. Understanding the student should be done before everything else. The most important thing a tutor can do is help their students to see the value and potential in themselves. I believe it is most important for a tutor to tailor their teaching according to the needs of their student. Many students learn in different ways such as visual or through different compounding activities to build a strong foundation before moving on to more difficult concepts. I believe being able to teach a student in the way that is most…

I consider the tutors passion and enthusiasm towards a subject can have a positive impact on how the student receives the information. When a tutor is enthusiastic on the content they are teaching, this transfers to the student. I am patient and try to break down complex content ideas into manageable ideas. A student will need a tutor because he/she couldn't understand what was being taught in class. The best thing for a tutor to do is focus on the parts that the student failed to understand and strengthen their understanding in those areas. Anybody's hold on Science is only as good as their understanding of the basics. So, it is best to focus on the…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them how to teach themselves. Instead of spoon-feeding students the answers to specific questions, a good tutor helps students understand how to think to devise a solution for any problem they encounter. Being only 18 years old and currently in Year 12, I thoroughly…

Tutoring with Sakshi has been going really well thanks. She's a really good fit for Felix who was a bit reluctant to get tutoring. She has a lovely, calm demeanour and clearly knows her stuff. she relates well to Felix, and he's making progress already as reflected in his grade.

Inside GreenacresTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Isabelle worked through advanced integration techniques and completed practice on optimisation problems, while also reviewing feedback from a recent test.

In Year 11, Sam revised trigonometric graphs using the Haese textbook and explored probability with real-world examples.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Petra focused on solving linear equations in preparation for an upcoming assessment, building confidence by practicing a range of algebraic questions together.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 calculus, one student struggled to apply textbook derivative rules and tended to leave working incomplete—she needs to work on how to do derivatives using the specific rules from the textbook.

A Year 8 student's solutions in algebra were difficult to follow due to inconsistent layout, making it hard to spot calculation errors.

In a Year 5 session, reluctance toward completing set homework meant new times tables weren't mastered before moving forward.

During a senior review set, "he could try to improve the way he writes his solutions," as messy formatting made it harder for both tutor and student to track progress and correct misunderstandings in real time.

Recent Achievements

One Greenacres tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student who used to hesitate with differentiation—she now implements all the required formulas correctly and is starting to tackle sign diagrams on her own, after previously relying heavily on guidance.

In another session, a Year 9 boy worked through complex exponential exercises and was able to solve most questions independently, only making minor mistakes where he would have been stuck before.

Meanwhile, a younger student who once needed visual aids for division surprised her tutor by grasping the concept abstractly this week and solving problems without extra support.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greenacres Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Martin's Catholic Primary School.
