I think the most important thing is helping build their confidence, not just their knowledge. A tutor should make sure the student actually understands the content, not just memorises it, and create a space where they feel comfortable asking questions. It’s also important to adapt to how each student learns, because not everyone understands…

I think building a students confidence is the most important part of teaching. By introducing them to methods they can use to problem solve for themselves, a whole world opens up for them. I will provide a structured approach to teaching these methods and support them as they put them into action. I am a calm and patient tutor who is passionate…

I think its most important to listen and consider your students by asking questions, attentively listening to their responses to determine if they have underlying misunderstandings or misconceptions about the material. By letting a student explain the topic in their own words, I can diagnose the issue and perhaps offer a new perspective on how I…

As a high school leaver, I consider providing support and trust as well as accurate academic knowledge to be the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student. Students do have teachers at school, therefore, the job of a tutor is to revise and trigger the knowledge of students, letting them realise their potential. I have physical and…

Most important would definitely be effort towards a student. No student would want a tutor who does not have the best interest in them and would definitely not want a tutor who is giving 50% of their efforts. Another important thing a tutor can do for a student is show passion and that they care, and that they are someone the students can…

Given students' difficulties at school, tutoring sessions should provide a supportive and stress-free environment. Moreover, each processes information at their own pace. I believe it is important for tutors to build students' confidence and boost their self-esteem. It is important to acknowledge that a student is doing well when they truly are; to encourage them to be resilient when it gets tough. This way students are able to conquer any challenge without fear which enables them to learn more effectively. This…

A tutor should, first and foremost, be amicable and trustworthy to students. I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is actually pay attention to how a student is thinking, not just if they're getting the answer right or wrong. I think a tutor's role goes beyond simply offering solutions to problems; instead, they should steer students towards finding answers and ensure a solid grasp of the required steps. Additionally, adaptability is crucial, as teaching methods should be flexible to accommodate diverse learning styles. A tutor ought to be non-judgmental, patient, and…

Being both supportive and empathetic are important. Encouraging a student and not making a huge deal about mistakes while congratulating correct responses builds a student's self-confidence which makes them perform better overall and develop a liking for the subject. Also, being understanding when the student struggles to perform when facing more…

Local Reviews

Reliable and good quality tutor a little expensive though
Vic Caplikas, Greystanes

Inside GreystanesTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Josh practiced multiplication and division skills, as well as NAPLAN reading and grammar tasks.

In Year 10, Sarah focused on expanding quadratic equations using perfect square and difference of two squares methods, and reviewed schoolwork on taxable income calculations.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student David tackled compound interest problems by identifying variables within the formula and worked through a range of practice questions to prepare for an upcoming test.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 mathematics, one student avoided showing algebraic working when substituting values into y = mx + b; as a tutor noted, "he went straight to answers, so mistakes in signs weren't visible until the end." This made it harder to spot where errors crept in and slowed progress with intercepts.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 chemistry student hesitated to attempt longer exam responses on ionic compounds, often leaving questions incomplete rather than structuring partial answers.

In Year 5 maths, reluctance to write out working for multiplication algorithms led to confusion when checking steps.

Each scenario left students less confident during revision and more reliant on last-minute guesswork.

Recent Achievements

One Greystanes tutor noted a Year 11 student who previously hesitated with indices and surds now answering those questions independently, needing far less guidance.

A high schooler working on compound interest has shifted from confusion to accurately solving for any variable in the formula, even attempting harder scenarios without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who often guessed during worded maths problems is now breaking them down step by step and writing out their reasoning before solving.

In one session, this younger student finished all ten worded multiplication problems with her written steps clearly shown.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greystanes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holroyd High School.
