When students feel comfortable and supported, they are more willing to ask questions and take on challenges Breaking down complex ideas into simple steps helps them understand and apply what…

I believe that when the right tutor is paired with the right student, they can help the student to understand the pleasure of academic subjects. A tutor's responsibility, in my opinion, should be to identify why the student may be struggling in that specific area of academics and then to adjust their teaching approach and technique to cater for…

A tutor’s most important responsibilities are to make learning clear, personalised, and encouraging. Understanding a student’s strengths, weaknesses, and learning style is essential. By genuinely engaging with the student, a tutor can create an environment where learning feels comfortable and motivating - which is why I prefer one-on-one…

First of all tutor behaviour with students. If tutor are very strict students can not share their problem due to fear however tutor can not behave very friendly because sometimes student can rude with tutor if we are very friendly. In my opinion, the most important thing you can do as a tutor is to help your students build genuine confidence in their abilities. Often a major roadblock for students is their belief that they can't learn the subject, which can be overcome by celebrating progress and normalising making mistakes. One of my strengths as a tutor is my ability to be…

A tutor's responsibility includes building a student's confidence by helping them believe in their abilities, and to ensure they develop a deep understanding of concepts, not just memorization. Tailoring the teaching approach to the student's learning style is important for making the material more accessible. Also, creating a safe and supportive…

I feel the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them patient, let them know that it is okay to make mistakes and encourage them to continue to learn and practice in order to master a skill. A can-do attitude is the most important thing a tutor can teach. I myself used to learn concepts in a way that were not theoretical but…

Foremost, a tutor should help their student to identify and reach their goals. Knowing what is important to the student and incorporating that into the metrics for success will help them feel like they are making progress. And secondly, tutors should help the student to form good habits; as motivation can only take one so far, incorporating a good…

Instil them with confidence! Breaking down those confidence barriers a student might have could result in them tackling a question they would have never attempted otherwise. This also means persevering when they get answers wrong - they know they'll get there eventually. Another really important part of being a tutor is providing the student…

Absolutely I'm happy. My son has quickly been set up with a great tutor with whom he can relate to. My sons confidence with his maths tasks improved within 2 weeks. I Highly recommend using this site.
Hannah, Hampton

Inside Hampton EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Chloe focused on doubling large numbers and solving multi-step addition problems, then briefly explored fractions using real-life examples.

In Year 9, Liam worked through factorising algebraic expressions and practiced expanding brackets for his upcoming maths test.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Ben tackled arithmetic and geometric sequences as well as exponential and logarithm questions to deepen understanding ahead of advanced assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 science, a student's note-taking was minimal—he rarely wrote down key lesson points, making later revision harder (he should from now on write down key areas of each lesson in a science book).

During Year 10 algebra, skipping written steps hid small calculation errors and cost marks.

In a Year 11 maths test, time management faltered: "she said she ran out of time during the test so she rushed questions," leading to avoidable mistakes.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student completed only familiar multiplication problems for homework, avoiding trickier types and slowing her progress with new concepts.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Hampton East recently noticed some great shifts in students' approach to learning. One Year 10 student who used to leave tough algebra questions blank is now confidently writing out each step and even drawing diagrams to break down worded problems—something he hadn't tried before.

Another high schooler, after initially rushing through homework, has started spreading out her practice over the week and now gets more answers right without extra help.

In a Year 4 session, a student who previously hesitated with times tables volunteered that she'd begun exploring fractions on her own and wanted to tackle harder ones next lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Moorabbin Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College.
