As a tutor, I'm responsible for providing support to my students, both academically and mentally, in order to help them achieve whatever they want. I also believe that the key to success lies not only in what you learn but also in how you learn it. Therefore, I always try to integrate cultivating suitable learning habits and adequate…

The most important thing is to learn what the student needs. It is easy to go off track and teach all the information you know, but I believe the students' request come first. Even though the students might not know what they need, the tutor should work with them and identify which areas the student need improvements on. Hence, the tutor could…

The most important things I can do for a student are to build their confidence in their own abilities and help them develop a strong conceptual understanding of the subject. Once students truly understand the underlying concepts, they are better able to apply their knowledge rather than relying solely on memorisation. I am patient and sympathetic,…

To really care for them - not just for the money but to really want to see them grow. Good tutors should be able to help students improve and not dependent on them, they should be able to help a student solve problems and not simply giving them answers. In addition, tutors also have to be patient as not all students have the same learning abilities. Lastly, I think a tutor should put in the effort to understand both the materials…

A tutor should be able to provide clarity in moments of doubt and confusion. Encourage practice and definitely believe in the student. Studying should be made interesting and not one sided as it can turn out to be really fun. I am extremely patient and organized. I will be planning notes and classes to make sure that we are always one step ahead…

Having received a lot of tutoring growing up, I know first-hand how challenging it can be to grasp difficult concepts. They not only helped me understand content but also built my confidence and sparked my curiosity. That experience…

This is because, with empathy and encouragement, students will perform better as they are more engaged and motivated in subjects they are studying. Furthermore, a tutor should give strategies…

A tutor's main goal should be to help the student develop the tools to go into the classroom and be confident about their skills, and hopefully, eventually, go on with their education, and ultimately their future, without a tutor. Everybody learns differently, and trying to apply the same approach to everyone is going to leave students struggling and frustrated. I adapt my teaching style to the way a student learns, and don't enforce a certain way of thinking - instead, I equip them with the tools to approach any problem in a way that works for them. I have two years'…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is be a student's number one supporter. School fills you with enough doubt as is, so it is imperative to create a safe learning environment for them to make mistakes in order to grow. This goes hand in hand with being a role model whom they can be inspired & motivated by and look up to. I believe…

Local Reviews

My son can't wait to have his maths lessons with his tutor every week! She is helping him learn through wonderful and fun ways!
Konstantina, Preston

Inside Heidelberg WestTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Olivia focused on factorising algebraic expressions and substitution in more complex equations to build confidence with foundational algebra skills.

In Year 9, Jacob practised graphing parabolas as well as substituting values into quadratic functions, using worked examples for clarity.

For Year 10, Sam concentrated on solving linear equations and revisited core trigonometric ratios—sine, cosine, and tangent to prepare for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often forgot to bring her maths textbook, which meant gaps in reviewing problem areas and "she needed to bring her maths books so I could see what she had struggled with this week."

In a senior class, one student ran out of time during an exam; as the tutor put it, "he missed some simple errors" because he didn't check answers before submitting.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student's algebra work was messy and hard to follow—incorrect values crept in when calculations weren't clearly laid out.

Distraction in English led another student to guess answers without reading passages closely.

Recent Achievements

One Heidelberg West tutor noticed Kiera now tackles more complex maths problems without hesitation—just weeks ago she'd often wait for reassurance before starting.

In Year 8, Ollie moved from making frequent mistakes in timed tests to using a standard formula they developed together for negative indices, helping him answer these questions independently and with fewer errors.

Meanwhile, Felix in primary school has shifted from being distracted during class to focusing well enough to score 8/8 on his fractions test after struggling with this topic earlier; he completed all the questions accurately on his own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ivanhoe Library & Cultural Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Pius X School.
