The age old question: “What am I going to do with my life when I finish school, and how do I get there? The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to assist them to an extent in answering this. By this, I mean mentoring and guiding students through their subjects - to the point where they feel confident enough to not be held…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to believe in their potential for academic success. Without this belief, teaching loses its purpose; with it, a tutor can inspire and empower students to achieve their goals. Additionally, building strong connections with students through active engagement is crucial, as these relationships…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is build confidence and spark an interest for learning. I would do this by encouraging a growth mindset and applying school concepts to the real world to show students that school learning does relate to the real world and doesn't just remain in the books. This is something I personally found…

As mentioned above a tutor has the opportunity to teach a lesson that is tailored specifically to a certain students strengths and weaknesses. We had our first tutoring session with Kyle on Sunday. He was an exceptional young man. Incredibly nice and engaging with our daughter and did a great job for the initial session.

Inside Hoxton ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Lucy worked through telling time and solving worded problems, practising with both written and visual examples.

In Year 8, James focused on linear equations and tackled financial mathematics problems, applying these to real-life contexts.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Sarah developed her essay writing skills and refined short answer responses for English assessment tasks.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student, when tackling worded maths questions on linear equations, often skipped writing down the problem's key details, leading to confusion and missed marks. "He jumped straight to calculations without unpacking what was asked," noted a tutor.

In Year 10 English, one student avoided outlining essay structures before drafting; as a result, ideas felt jumbled during timed assessments.

Meanwhile, in Year 5 maths, messy fraction working made it hard for them to spot errors or revisit steps later—erasures blurred their original thinking. These habits left them uncertain when reviewing or under exam pressure.

Recent Achievements

A Hoxton Park tutor noticed a Year 9 student who used to avoid multi-step equations now works through two-step problems independently, only checking her answers at the end instead of asking for help after each step.

Another win: a Year 11 student recently shifted from writing incomplete short answer responses to producing full paragraphs with clear structure, tackling his English essay task more confidently than before.

In primary sessions, one Year 4 learner—who often guessed times on clocks—can now read and interpret timetables correctly, finishing a transport worksheet without any prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Carnes Hill Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Good Samaritan Catholic College.
