I think the most important thing is that students are able to recall information because they actually understand what they are being taught and not memorizing concepts just for the sake of it. By doing this, they will automatically improve and maintain good grades. I think my strength is being a student where I can understand the struggles that…

The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to not just tell a student the answers for everything, but to teach them how to solve it for themselves, and to help them gain the skills to learn and understand on their own, so even if I stop teaching them, they will be stronger on their own. I believe my strengths lie within the…

I believe the most important thing for an english tutor to do is to cultivate the interest and engagement of the students. In Chinese, there is an idiom that roughly translates to "Interest is the best teacher", by actively engaging the interests of students you make learning not a chore, but rather a joy. I believe that my biggest strength lies…

Great communication and really understanding the students way of learning. Whether it is visually or through notes, the tutor should be able to adapt the way he teaches based on the students capabilities and understanding. Also the ability to not make class boring or a drag, because the student is then uninterested and bored, which hinders their…

It is highly important for an english tutor to listen to their student. Having interest and possibly even enjoying what they are learning assists with retaining information they receive, so it is important to take in and consider students' requests or suggestions for the lessons so that they can continue to be engaged in lessons. Listening and…

I also think motivating the student even if it a small success would impact them in a good way. Adaptable to change my teaching skills in order to be fun and engaging depending on the student. In my perspective, I acknowledge the importance of establishing a sense of comfort between an english tutor and a student. If this is established, the student will feel more comfortable asking questions and tend to open up more about themselves; whether it be about the marks they are getting that need improvement or whether they're having a rough…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is build confidence. Sometime, all it takes is confidence for a student who is unsure about their abilities to really flourish. Inside KnoxfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Paige worked on building speed and accuracy with double-digit addition and subtraction, as well as practising mental maths strategies for complementary numbers to ten.

Year 11 student Lily focused on balancing thermochemical equations in Chemistry and explored the production process and environmental impact of various fuels.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Daniel tackled problems involving definite integrals—such as estimating area under curves—and reviewed differentiation techniques using chain rule applications in preparation for VCE exams.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student working ahead in VCE Maths Methods left some school assignment problems incomplete, which meant that gaps lingered and couldn't be addressed until the next session.

In senior Chemistry, one student often delayed sending lab reports to the tutor before class—"If Sarah can send me the report a day earlier, we'll save time for feedback"—resulting in less time to tackle misconceptions or extend her analysis.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student's tendency to rely on hands or number lines during subtraction led to hesitation when faced with numbers above 20; this slowed mental calculation and caused uncertainty when new combinations appeared.

Recent Achievements

One Knoxfield tutor noticed a big shift with Sarah in Year 12 Chemistry—she's now coming to sessions ready with her own questions and even prepares materials ahead of time, showing far more initiative than before.

Another high school student recently started pinpointing and correcting her own homework mistakes during lessons, something she hadn't done independently until now.

In a primary session, a younger learner who previously hesitated with vertical addition is now breezing through problems quickly and rarely makes errors.

Last week, Sarah finished her practical report without needing any extra support from the tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Rowville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Carrington Primary School.
