Help the students to reach their goal. For example, if a student want to pass the test with certain grade, then me as a tutor must try my best to make the student reach their goal and the tutor must make the process fun not stressful. I believe a tutor can impact student's lives by providing the foundation he needs for further studies. A student with a poor concept might some how pass but he will struggle in the future, or looses interest in that subject. Hence a tutor can strengthen that foundation, at the same time be a source of motivation and a be a big brother. My main…

I think the most important thing for a tutor is to be a reliable guide to the students. Every students has their own way of learning and pace of learning. There is no one size fits all when it comes to tutoring. It is important that a tutor is communicating with the students, understand their needs and be there for the student whenever they need…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to promote confidence in a student. After a tutoring session, the goal should not be for a student to be able to complete their homework. Instead, the student should gain an understanding of the topic such that they can complete future coursework without the help of a tutor. If that…

A tutor can lead a student, can make clear about does and don't and more over a tutor can teach student in very friendly environment. I am quick responder to the problems of the students. Think to pass the belief that the student can achieve the goal. It is just the matter of working hard and maybe trying different approach. And also not comparing yourself to other students, because everyone is unique. I, myself, was in a situation where I had very low marks in Math and Science subjects, but I worked hard and I saw my brain change…

I believe following up with students is the best way to create accountability and instil a routine in them. Also, tutors who put in effort after hours, such as staying back to help or creating personalised tasks to target their weak areas, are critical for students to excel in their studies. As a previously tutored student, I can guarantee that…

Tutoring is not just about writing formulas on paper and solving equations. Tutoring is about connecting with the student, listening to them and understanding them. Only then a tutor can see what topics the students are struggling with and be able to help them. A tutor can go on and on and on for hours with a lot of knowledge base and high level…

I think it goes without saying that a tutor should help their student/s to understand concepts so that the student can improve on their grades. But I believe that tutoring goes so much further beyond that. A tutor should strive to truly engage the student in their learning. A good tutor will motivate and inspire the student so that they are…

Building a caring relationship in my opinion is the most important thing a tutor can do for any student. It is only that foundation can a tutor be able to deliver his best and at the same time the student will be keen to learn. It is the conducive learning environment that a tutor has to provide to enable the student to work to his/her maximum…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them grasp/love a subject. I believe that without a genuine passion for a subject, a student can really struggle to proceed through it especially throughout the whole year. I think that if a tutor is able to help a student grasp/understand/love a subject, it can help them…

A tutor's job is to build confidence and make learning feel rewarding. That starts with clear explanations, patient encouragement, and adapting to the student's pace. It also means modelling effective study habits and problem-solving strategies, so they can work independently. When students enjoy the process and trust their skills, their results…

Help them enjoy learning. The role of a tutor should be to engage the student and make the learning process fun, encouraging them to put more effort into their learning, consequently improving their results. As well as this, it is vital that a tutor guide the student to a solution rather than simply giving them the answer, allowing them to…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is create a comfortable and supportive environment where the student feels confident to ask questions and make mistakes. Inside KogarahTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Alex revised factors and multiples, tackled missing angle problems in geometry, and practiced comparing and creating equivalent fractions.

For Year 9, Olivia worked through surface area of prisms and cylinders along with an introduction to indices using step-by-step examples.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ryan focused on financial maths topics like simple interest calculations and applied index laws across a range of questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student working on indices and equations sometimes left working steps off the page, as noted: "she skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors." This made it tough to spot where misunderstandings happened.

In Year 11 Financial Maths, one student leaned heavily on calculator routines for compound interest but struggled to set up questions without prompts.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 learner practicing fraction-to-decimal conversions had difficulty keeping their written layout organized—misaligning columns led to confusion when comparing results. The extra time spent sorting out formatting mistakes meant less energy for grasping new concepts in later parts of the lesson.

Recent Achievements

A Kogarah tutor recently noticed a Year 9 student who used to avoid complex algebra now asking for harder simultaneous equations and successfully creating the equation of a line from two coordinates.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student who'd struggled with applying multiple formulas managed to solve trigonometry problems independently by choosing between Pythagoras' theorem, Sine, and Cosine rules—something she previously hesitated to attempt without step-by-step guidance.

In Year 5, one child who always guessed when comparing fractions is now pausing to work through each comparison and even explained her thinking aloud before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bayside Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kogarah High School.
