Passing on the knowledge that you have and helping them to solve their queries whatsoever they are and be gentle, polite and humble to them so that they can learn the same values and guiding them on the right direction. I am friendly and can indulge the students in the sessions very well with a little informal conversations in between so that they…

I believe that every child is unique. But as they grow older, their creative confidence is lost. Everything can be transformed if we can transform the brain and recreate those neural connections which will bring back creative intuition in your life. I try to curate experiential transformation learning in my teachings to bring back creative…

Listen to the students and understand what the actual issue is. More often than not it's not the concept itself but how the student is processing the concept, and if you don't see that you'll only be able to help them understand through repetition. My ability to tailor lessons to a students needs and study styles. I enjoy working with both…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is being patient and have the ability to explain concepts. Through my previous tutoring experiences, I've learned that it can sometimes be challenging when a student struggles with a concept that seems straightforward. However, I've learnt that the most effective way to support a student is by…

A good tutor should always be patient and supportive while also making classes engaging. Maintaining a positive attitude not only strengthens the teacher-student relationship but also boosts students' confidence in their learning. An engaging class is essential, as students need a break from the overwhelming amount of content they are absorbing. …

I believe that one of the most vital things a tutor can do is to establish a welcoming environment so that the students feel comfortable asking questions. At the same time, tutors should not provide answers straight away. Instead, they should guide them on the right path and assist them by breaking the question up in order to stimulate better…

I consider the most important things a tutor can do for a student to be providing continuous encouragement and assistance. It's crucial to motivate students, helping them to believe in their abilities and potential. By maintaining a positive and supportive approach, a tutor can foster a student's confidence and enthusiasm for learning, rather than…

I believe the most important thing for a tutor is to listen to and understand their student's weaknesses and strengths. Often I find many people lack personalisation and simply follow the curriculum. I like to take a different approach where I really personalise my teaching depending on the student's capabilities and learning style. I also find…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is listen. By actively listening, a tutor can understand how a student thinks, where they’re struggling and what support they truly need. This allows the tutor to adapt their approach, explain concepts more effectively and create a safe, supportive environment. Strong listening skills…

I think a tutor must put in just as much, if not more effort than the student. He should not only know the concept but also know how to frame it according to the needs of his student I can boil down a complex topic in simple terms. A tutor has the ability to lend a comforting ear to the student away from the classroom. A tutor can lift a students morale by providing a safe space outside the classroom where they can voice their academic concerns. In essence an effective tutor means undivided attention to cater for a students well being. I am result oriented. I am an active…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient. There needs to be an acknowledgement that although a student may be behind or not a standard, yet that is okay. Because with extra time and effort with a tutor a student can improve. As I tutor, I feel I strong sense of empathy with students, there was a point early on in my…

I think there are severals things that a teacher can do for students such as prepare easy academic curriculum so that students can understand the solution easily. Moreover, this helps them to solve the jumbled problem in easy way. Secondly, the tutor needs to maintain proper flow of communication with the students this helps them to freely ask the…

I think that the most important thing for any tutor can do for their students is ensure that they are understanding the concepts. Apart from this, tutors should create an environment where students dont…

Madeline was a great tutor, friendly, easy going and understanding. I would highly recommend her to anyone needing help with their studies
Natalie Gesslein

Inside Laverton NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 Oscar focused on solving worded quadratic equations and spent time graphing cubic functions.

Year 10 Ava worked through challenging derivatives questions, including the chain rule and product rule, and practiced inverse function problems using past exam material.

For Year 11 Dean, recent lessons involved tackling integration questions in preparation for an upcoming SAC and revising key trigonometry concepts like the unit circle with homework review.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student's algebra work was often hard to follow—his working out can be very messy and unclear, making it tough to spot errors or review steps, especially with surds and fractions.

In Year 11 Methods, one student would jump into algebraic manipulation without first checking for possible simplifications, resulting in wasted time and confusion mid-solution.

Another Year 12 learner hesitated to attempt complex probability questions involving multiple variables, sometimes giving up early despite being capable of solving them.

When exam wording became tricky in senior maths, a lack of confidence led to missed opportunities on challenging problems.

Recent Achievements

One Laverton North tutor recently noticed Ava, a Year 12 student, no longer relies on the formula sheet for chain and product rules—she's now able to complete derivative calculations faster and from memory, after struggling to recall them before.

Oscar (Year 11) has started catching his own algebra mistakes with indices mid-question, rather than waiting for correction; he's also begun to approach difficult problems by trying new methods independently instead of hesitating.

In middle years, Dean has made a shift from frequent errors in expansion to self-checking his work—he picked up a mistake himself while reviewing solutions last week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Altona Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Martin de Porres School.
