I think the most important thing a tutor could do would be to find how the student learns, and target this helping them to optimize how they learn so they can achieve the best result possible. My strengths would definitely be communication and patience. I am a good people person and find I am an effective communicator and patient when it comes to…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, explain concepts clearly, and create a supportive, judgment-free environment. A great tutor helps students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, while also guiding them toward independent thinking and problem-solving. Its important to…

Personally, the most important thing a tutor can do is to inspire the student to be curious. Being in a 1-to-1 setting, it gives an ideal environment for the student to get personalised help. For me, I always let my students know no questions are stupid, I do not want the student to be afraid of asking question, and to ask questions whenever in…

A tutor can do a lot for a student. But I feel like the most important thing that can be done is to change the idea of a negative notion about a subject in the students mind. Attitude plays a key role in learning, and diminishing that fear, and giving the student confidence can really change their entire interest and perception about that certain…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to create an environment where the student feels fully comfortable and confident. It’s crucial that they never hesitate to ask questions or admit when something isn’t clear. When students feel safe and supported, genuine learning can take place. After that, I think it’s about helping them…

It's very important that a tutor can passionately engage with a student and journey with them as they progress. I also think that a tutor's role as a mentor in general is important I am very passionate about it and that allows me to enthusiastically and actively engage with students and try hard to help them understand and appreciate more…

The most important thing a tutor can do in my opinion is be patient with a student and try and understand the problem from their perspective. By doing this, you are able to see more clearly the issue that they might be having. I also believe that finding the best learning method for a student is a key part of the role as a tutor, and this will…

Help them learn the way they learn best. Education is extremely important, and often students that seek tuition are having troubles with the work, which is often caused by the teacher not teaching them in the way that they learn best. And that is okay, so as a tutor, I would want to see how they learn best, and help them to enjoy and achieve in…

So far I have found several factors that make for good tutors. Firstly building a strong and personal relationship with the student is very important as the more connected a student feels to his or her tutor, the more the tutor can add essential ingredients for students to learn and grow. Secondly, communication and collaboration with the student,…

I believe that it is incredibly important for a tutor to inspire their student to achieve their very best in terms of their academics. I also believe that a tutor can act as a more relatable source of academic help instead of a teacher; a tutor can provide more in depth help outside the class room. I can sympathise with the students in terms of…

I definitely think that there needs to be a solid understanding of the student and the way in which they learn so that the tutor can teach them in a way which is most effective to them. Along with this, I think that the tutor should make the student feel comfortable with them so that they feel free to ask questions or ask for further…

I believe that one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to explain the concept behind a problem more thoroughly than do the problem itself with them. This can be achieved by breaking up a complex problem, which may rely on more than one mathematical concept such as trig and calculus. By splitting up the parts of the…

Inside MansfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Amelia focused on drafting her English assignment, working through key points and structuring her response.

Year 7 student Dekota revised term content with particular attention to order of operations and solving worded percentage problems using different methods.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Jenny practised algebra by finding the value of unknowns in equations and also tackled measurement questions involving area and volume of shapes.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student found it challenging to recall formulas for area and volume during geometry tasks, often pausing mid-question to check notes—she needed prompting to remember which formula fit the shape.

In Year 11 algebra, another student relied heavily on calculators for basic operations like rounding off or sign changes, making it difficult to build fluency without digital aids.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner hesitated with long division when borrowing was involved; confusion over layout meant answers were abandoned half-finished until guided step-by-step.

These habits led to lost time or uncertainty in independent problem-solving moments.

Recent Achievements

One Mansfield tutor noticed a real shift with Dekota in Year 9 maths: she now asks questions when stuck, instead of staying silent and guessing—something she rarely did before.

Taysha, also in high school, recently caught her own mistake on an order of operations problem and then explained the correct steps back to the tutor without prompting.

In Year 6 English, Amelia became much more focused during assignment editing sessions; she listened carefully to feedback and suggested her own changes after some guidance.

Last week, Taysha chose a new strategy for tackling algebra questions on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mount Gravatt Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Brisbane Adventist College.
