The most important things a tutor can do for a student is build confidence and spark an interest for learning. I would do this by encouraging a growth mindset and applying school concepts to the real world to show students that school learning does relate to the real world and doesn't just remain in the books. This is something I personally found…

The most important thing a tutor can do is help a student truly understand concepts rather than just memorise them. A good tutor should adapt to each student's learning style, be patient, and create a supportive environment where questions are…

Becoming friends with the actual student that helps them grow as individuals rather than simply teaching content is the most important thing a tutor can do for a student. Inside MarayongTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Jacqui worked on long division, multiplication, and indices in preparation for her recent test.

In Year 8, Alysse focused on financial maths by completing a homework assessment and then tackled compound interest questions to strengthen understanding of percentages in real-world contexts.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Grace revised algebra skills by simplifying and expanding expressions and also practiced applying the trapezoidal rule to solve area problems.

Recent Challenges

During a recent Year 9 session, one student avoided showing working in algebra, preferring to "do it in her head"—as the tutor noted, this led to small errors that could have been caught with clearer written steps.

In Year 7, another student skipped homework assignments meant for revision; when questioned, she hadn't attempted any questions or reached out for help.

Meanwhile, a senior student preparing for exams became flustered under timed conditions and missed key marks on trigonometry because "she couldn't settle into an exam mindset."

These habits left gaps in understanding and undermined confidence during assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Marayong tutor noticed a big change in a Year 10 student, Alysse, who used to hesitate with financial maths—she recently achieved 95% on an assessment after practising new strategies and now tries different ways of factorising problems herself.

In Year 8, Hima moved from struggling with algebra to correctly answering almost every question in a challenging set, showing real persistence and focus during sessions.

Meanwhile, Michael in Year 2 has started reading sight words independently and now completes addition questions without needing help, finishing his worksheet by himself for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lalor Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Marayong Heights Public School.
