I think that some tutors get caught up in focusing solely on the work in front of them and miss out on teaching younger students about the life in front of them. Instead of doing more work, tutors should provide organisation tips and possible strategies they can put in place to improve the quality of their work. Also, forming close relationships…

The most important job of a tutor is to instil the love of learning into the student, because that will motivate the student to become a self-learner and make learning a joy rather than a chore. I can explain concepts clearly from different angles, and provide context to ground conceptual understanding in. I listen to the student's perspective to…

Encourage the student to ask many questions and provide visual demonstrations, whether it be a visual demonstration of a physics concept or a step-by-step process of solving a mathematical problem. I also believe that discussing my exact thought process in solving problems helps the student to build better problem-solving habits. I am very…

I think one is being able to guide the student in his/her learning. Equally important is to be able to acknowledge the student's unique style of learning and use that to develop strategies to make learning easy and fun for the student. I think that I am able to simplify complex concepts and be able to create a strategic step-by-step approach in…

From my experience the most important aspect of tutoring is giving the student the confidence to do what they think is right. So much of maths and life is doing what you think is right and then reflecting on the consequences. If you don't have the confidence to take the first step then you won't solve anything. The hardest aspect is giving…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen to and understand the students' difficulties and know the parts they need my help the most. Inside Marble HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Alyssia explored titration calculations in chemistry, focusing on molar ratios and rearranging the n = m/M and C = n/V equations;

Year 9 student Daniel practiced identifying gradients and y-intercepts when finding equations of straight lines, using graph sketches to reinforce concepts;

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student revised the 6 and 7 times tables alongside calculating perimeter and area for simple shapes.

Recent Challenges

A recurring challenge for several students across Years 3–12 was incomplete or missing homework, particularly in mathematics—notes repeatedly flagged unfinished tasks and reminders to complete assigned work.

In a Year 8 algebra session, one student "preferred to look at what she'd already done rather than try and push herself," which slowed her confidence with new types of problems.

For a senior chemistry student, over-reliance on provided equations during molar ratio questions led to hesitation when facing less familiar formats; as the tutor observed, "some reliability on equations, but with more practice he should be able to apply concepts to new questions." This pattern sometimes left revision feeling shallow ahead of tests.

Recent Achievements

One Marble Hill tutor recently noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student's approach: after often waiting for hints, he now comes prepared with specific questions and confidently guides each session toward his trickiest maths topics.

In Year 12 chemistry, another student who previously needed step-by-step help with titration equations is now able to solve mixed-ratio problems entirely on her own by the end of each lesson.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who used to struggle with multi-digit subtraction has begun finishing her homework accurately and even reviews times tables without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbelltown Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Basket Range Primary School.
