I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to not only improve their understanding and comprehension of content but to also improve their confidence in themselves and bringing enjoyment to learning. In the past I have found some concepts hard to grasp and not only feeling like I didn’t know what to do but also seeing it…

Thus, the tutor can improve how they acquire knowledge and boost their learning in a proper way My strength is my love for science and biology which encourages each student to see science in the same way. Be patient and understanding because majority of students want to understand but they cannot, which is why we have to explain slowly to make sure that they are not pressured and embarrased. I am truly patient. Especially in the case of tutoring other people, which in my case; sister and friends, I can keep repeating my explanation so that they…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to make sure the students like the subject, when the students do not like a certain subject due to hard to understand or some other factors, this will result in a repulsion of the subject and creating a negative impact on them. Once they are interested in the subject, this will make their studies much…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are: Build the student’s confidence, not just their skills, so they feel capable of approaching new problems independently. Adapt to the student’s learning style, presenting concepts in ways that make sense to them. Create a supportive, low-pressure environment where questions are welcomed…

Ask feedback from the student and improve the areas that you are lacking. A tutor can add videos and quiz in between their session to make the session interesting. My session are always engaging. I feel, that apart from the educational lessons a tutor is providing, which is their obvious task, giving them life lessons is also a duty of a tutor because they are learning from the tutors, and they are spending their much time with them. So, it's the responsibility of a tutor to give them practical knowledge, and life lessons, creating an…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is teach a student how to learn independently. It is not just about helping them get the right answer for tonight's homework; it is about equipping them with the critical thinking and problem-solving skills they need for the future. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be a life mentor. The things that the tutor teaches should go above and beyond academics and the subject they are teaching. The student should also grow and unlock their capabilities, to the point that it will surprise them. My biggest strength is my straightforwardness. I am very honest…

I think tutors have to have the appropriate amount of empathy to understand, not only the way they learn, but also their reason for learning. Best thing tutor can do is align his values with his student's. I think this is a way to frustrate and alienate him. I can approach a problem the way student does. This gives me an insight into where they…

The most important thing a tutor can do is build a student's confidence so they eventually don't need a tutor anymore. It is about meeting them on their level, teaching them how to think…

Not intimidate students with the level of difficulty associated with the subject. Be on the same page as the student, and not rushing concepts. Inside MelbourneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Jason reviewed key concepts in Trigonometry, including complementary angles, and practiced differentiation using first principles to prepare for a Math Methods test.

Year 12 student worked through complex numbers in polar form (cis(theta)) and tackled textbook exercises, also revising inverse trigonometric functions ahead of an upcoming Specialist Mathematics assessment.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student covered the basics of linear equations—solving for one variable and graphing lines—and explored atomic structure in Chemistry, focusing on subatomic particles and electron shells.

Recent Challenges

Homework was not completed in a recent Year 11 session, which left gaps in understanding and slowed progress with new calculus problems—"please do the HW:), as it'll really strengthen your understanding," noted the tutor.

In another Year 12 lesson, revision focused mainly on familiar question types; less time was spent on more challenging trigonometric proofs and complex numbers, limiting exposure to higher-level exam material.

For a Year 4 student tackling long division, feeling stressed when unable to solve problems instantly led to hesitation in practice. In these moments, avoidance or incomplete work delayed deeper confidence and fluency.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Melbourne recently noticed Jason, a Year 11 student, moving from hesitancy to actively asking thoughtful questions while tackling challenging Trigonometry problems—a big step up from his earlier quietness.

In another high school session, Thomas started out unsure with negative numbers but now solves linear equations more confidently after connecting operations across Math and Chemistry.

Meanwhile, a younger student, Charlie, who used to get stuck on addition and subtraction, can now work through most sums without help.

Last week, Jonas—previously distracted—chose mental maths strategies himself and completed all division tasks unaided.
