Chemistry Tutor Melton West, VIC
As I recently graduated I can understand the pressure that is being faced every day so I would make sure that the student studies a topic with a cool mind rather than studying in a panic mood. I would like them to study everything in a smart way rather studying everything in a hard way. I also believe while studying the student should know what is…

Chemistry Tutor Melton South, VIC
Building confidence in a student is the most important thing for a chemistry tutor. In another way, a student can realise his or her capacity to solve a problem and be confident in it despite failing several times. Working with kids helps me to understand and communicate effectively throughout a lesson, which are key elements in tutoring.…

I consider the most important thing as a chemistry tutor is to teach your students to ask more questions, more often and trying to answer those questions themselves as if they are the teacher because by doing this they actually get used to thinking about various problems in a better way and come up with well thought questions and a better…

Chemistry Tutor Darley, VIC
The most important thing a chemistry tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence and help them become independent learners. It’s not just about helping with homework or test prep — it’s about teaching them how to think, ask questions, and solve problems on their own. A good tutor creates a safe and encouraging space where the…

Chemistry Tutor Darley, VIC
My primary focus is guiding students through the subject matter while fostering critical thinking to ensure a deep understanding of concepts. Additionally, I can help them develop growth mindset; to seek assistance, develop confidence to embrace mistakes while understanding the cruciality of learning from those mistakes. My strength is creating a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is provide a space for them to feel confident and able in what they can achieve. I believe this as personally in my experiences being tutored, having that support really encouraged me to engage more with my learning because I had another space where I had that confidence. My strengths are my…

Inside MerrimuTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Laila worked on revising the processes and factors affecting photosynthesis and cellular respiration, using summary diagrams to clarify inputs, outputs, and efficiency.

In Year 10, Hannah focused on surds and indices by applying index laws to past test questions and practiced expanding binomial products such as (a+b)^2 and rationalising denominators using conjugates.

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Adaa covered multiples, factors, lowest common multiple (LCM), highest common factor (HCF), and used factor trees for prime factorisation during problem-based exercises.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Biology, one student left several exam-style questions blank when unsure, which meant missed opportunities to apply knowledge even if partially correct. This pattern of avoiding answers repeated in earlier lessons on cellular respiration, where hesitation blocked recall and practice.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 Maths learner often did calculations in her head instead of writing out steps; this made it hard for her to check working or explain reasoning—especially during percentage and long division tasks.

In another session, a Year 9 student's incomplete homework led to gaps in pre-session revision tests and undermined progress on indices and algebra.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Merrimu noticed that a Year 10 student, previously hesitant to speak up, now regularly asks for clarification during sessions and attempts challenging quiz questions even when unsure—last week she improved her quiz score from 8/14 to 12/17 and finished faster than before.

In Year 12 chemistry, Leana began identifying hydrogen environments independently in HNMR problems after initially struggling; she now completes related calculations with less prompting.

Meanwhile, a younger student who often skipped words while reading out loud is now sounding out unfamiliar words independently and only occasionally loses her place in longer passages.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lederderg Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bacchus Marsh Primary School.
