The most important things a tutor can do are build the student’s confidence, provide consistent support, and create a safe space for learning. A good tutor doesn’t just help with grades, they help the student believe in their ability to learn and succeed. Encouraging curiosity, setting goals, and providing tailored feedback are also key. My…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is provide them with motivation to move on and keep pushing. Since I know those times are not easy i reckon helping students get through with their maximum ability is crucial. I am very patient and I am willing to explain something as many times until the student has understood the concept.…

A tutor should build the students understanding, confidence, and independence in their own unique learning style. To do this I need to most importantly explain concepts clearly, identify gaps, and create a supportive environment where the student feels comfortable asking questions. My strengths are clear communication, patience, and the ability to…

Being able to teach in a way where students are readily motivated and inspired by the way you teach. Balancing between creativity and fundamental aspects of learning will help pave a way for students to unlock their potential. Speaking in a positive tone to teach but not bore students is essential to doing a better job. I am kind-spirited,…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to understand how the student learns. By knowing the students learning preferences and ability the tutor can tailor their approach to individuals rather than utilising a blanket approach, which can often leave some students behind. My strengths lie in the ability to communicate ideas or…

I think the most important thing a tutor can offer to a younger student is their experience, similar to that of a mentor. Beyond course content, tutors can draw from their study, career and life experiences to help the student navigate their path. I am proud of my ability to teach and explain concepts to others effectively and thoroughly, which I…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to enrich their understanding and reinvigorate or catalyze a passion in a particular subject. Nowadays, a student's passion for a particular subject dwindles as they go further and further into their high school career. This may be due to external factors such as pressure or…

I believe the most important thing is to help and guide students through the HSC period, and their choices after the HSC. My weakness is that I am a quiet person and I don't talk a lot unless it is with close friends,…

Other than the obvious reasons of being able to just regurgitate the content taught in schools in my opinion the most important things a tutor could do for a student is be compassionate for them and empathetic as tutoring is not like school as since they may go tutoring e.g. 1 time per week they need to learn more content than of which they do at…

The most crucial aspect of a tutor's role for a student is to understand them and be able to establish a friendly connection. The most important role a tutor can play is showing constant and unconditional support for their student. A tutor should be able to form a dynamic relationship with the student that the student can indulge in for effective motivation, determine the roots of the mathematical concepts they have a weakness with that the teacher couldn't, and find a simple yet interactive solution to strenghtening it. I believe that the best tutors must empower students to believe they can learn anything; they celebrate small wins to make learning feel rewarding, not stressful. This helps them see the progress that they made, even if it's from small steps. Additionally, I believe that tutors must be able to build confidence, personalise learning, and inspire…

To not show them the answer straight away. Push the student to understand what they are doing, and use the knowledge that they have learnt to solve the problem. There is no point in getting a question wrong, looking at the answer and saying 'I will do that next time'. It is essential that they can do the questions individually and confidently. I…

Sharren is wonderful. They have formed an instant connection, and Bree is already feeling more confident and did an open book maths test yesterday without looking at the book hardly at all. Sharren is already a part of the house when i walk through the door and she is already in my opinion, the best tutor for Bree

Inside Mount PritchardTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Arabella practised telling time on both analogue and digital clocks, and compared fractions visually using shapes.

Year 7 student Elena focused on interpreting column graphs in data, as well as simplifying algebraic expressions by collecting like terms and substituting values for variables.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student worked through quadratic equations using the quadratic formula, then applied trigonometry concepts to solve right-angled triangle problems with step-by-step guidance.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student avoided showing working in algebra, saying "I just went straight to the answer," which hid sign errors and made it difficult to spot calculation slips—especially with negatives.

In a Year 7 session, homework was brought in the wrong notebook and worded questions were skipped if they looked hard; this led to gaps when reviewing feedback.

Meanwhile, a senior student tackling quadratic factorisation struggled to attempt new question types independently, hesitating unless prompted.

In primary years, a focus on only familiar times tables slowed progress with division tasks, while rushed written work meant punctuation and layout were inconsistent even when answers were correct.

Recent Achievements

One Mount Pritchard tutor noticed a Year 10 student who'd always hesitated with substitution and parallel lines start to independently solve these questions after several weeks of targeted practice, now confidently working through them without prompting.

In Year 7, a student who previously rushed and made frequent errors on "jump strategy" problems slowed down, took her time, and answered every question correctly in the last session—a big shift from her earlier frustration.

Meanwhile, a younger learner who used to struggle telling time now reads both digital and analogue clocks smoothly and even draws clock faces accurately on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as The Whitlam Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic Primary School Mount Pritchard.
