While helping them complete their homework and studies for school is important, I think tutors should help students realise the true use of these subjects in the real world, which can help them develop into wonderful people. I believe I am very patient and understanding. And as I am currently studyiong for a bachelors degree in Medicine, I have a…

I believe the most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence and help them truly understand the subject rather than just memorising it. A good tutor should create a supportive learning environment, explain concepts clearly, and encourage students to ask questions so they can develop independent learning…

Biology Tutor South Hobart, TAS
As a university student with an ADHD diagnosis, I have learnt that it's important to learn in a way that is productive to myself, which may not benefit others in the same way. These methods involve breaking down and simplifying tasks to avoid over providing. Asking for consistent feedback to make sure I am on track and making sense of the content…

The most important thing I can do for a student is provide the student with confidence and real time feedback. I compose myself in a approachable and transparent manner. Based on my former experience as a biology tutor, I have found students warm to me and form a sense of pride having me as their tutor. I can provide a very approachable,…

tutor must give 100% knowledge on the subjects tutor must clear their doubts immediately and they should be available for students for clearing doubts. tutors must work harder with students to improve their marks and teach them clearly. Listening to the needs of the child will also help you to better understand the student’s situation so that…

The most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is to make the subject matter they are teaching enjoyable to learn. This is important because learning should be something we actively engage in and if a tutor can make it so the students seek out learning more readily then they have already succeeded in some sense. As a tutor my…

Biology Tutor Taroona, TAS
To be patient, supportive, foster a relationship with the student where they are not afraid or embarrassed to admit when they don't understand something, to ensure they say so as soon as possible, so that the tutor can fix their errors when they begin and correct their path to success. I am very patient, i like to explain things in very simple…

Inside Mount StuartTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Scarlett focused on improving sentence structure by practicing with independent and dependent clauses, and explored word relationships through activities involving synonyms, antonyms, and analogies.

Year 11 student Aimee worked through stoichiometry problems such as mole-mass conversions and balancing equations, then moved on to revision of organic chemistry concepts in preparation for an upcoming SAC.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Charli concentrated on the adaptive immune system by applying her knowledge to relevant exam-style questions and also reviewed evolution content using class notes and practice questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Chemistry, Aimee sometimes became overwhelmed by complex questions, leading her to overcomplicate answers rather than break them down into manageable parts. As one tutor noted, "She needs to be more meticulous when applying the rules because it is easy to make small errors."

In Year 7 English, Scarlett tended to answer sentence structure questions too quickly without fully processing them—she would realise immediately after that she'd misunderstood or missed key elements.

For both students, skipping careful revision and not systematically reviewing marked-up feedback led to repeated mistakes in later tasks and reduced their confidence when new material was introduced.

Recent Achievements

One Mount Stuart tutor noticed Aimee taking real initiative by tackling chemistry questions before they'd even been covered in class and then applying new methods independently—something she hadn't attempted before.

Charli, also in high school, has shifted from quietly working to now actively asking clarifying questions during sessions and using diagrams when unsure, which helps her check her own understanding.

Meanwhile, Zane made noticeable progress in English by reading an article aloud with clear expression and confidently paraphrasing its main points after initially struggling to summarise information on his own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as State Library of Tasmania—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mount Stuart Primary School.
