What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

Helping friends and peers build confidence as they grow their skill set. I love helping my peers in marine science build confidence in their coding skills and seeing a concept click for them, which improves the efficiency of their coding.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I was diagnosed with ADHD 5 years ago, and have learnt how to work around and with traditional methods and patterns of teaching. I see this as a strength, as it helps me understand which teaching style would best benefit the learner. Studying science, I know the importance of having a deep understanding of the subject matter, making content engaging, and promoting independent thinking when solving problems.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

As a university student with an ADHD diagnosis, I have learnt that it's important to learn in a way that is productive to myself, which may not benefit others in the same way. These methods involve breaking down and simplifying tasks to avoid over providing. Asking for consistent feedback to make sure I am on track and making sense of the content and feedback. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to foster a patient and encouraging environment.

About Mila

Maths and Science Strengths with Real Study Experience

Mila is a final-year Marine and Antarctic Science student, so maths and problem-solving are part of her everyday study. She works with oceanography, chemistry and coding, which means she uses algebra, graphs and data analysis in a very practical way. This tutor can show students how classroom maths connects to real-world topics like oceans and climate. Mila also draws on her own experience of having an inspiring maths teacher and understands what makes explanations clear and memorable for school students.

Supportive One-on-One Help and Peer Coaching

Mila has spent many hours helping friends and peers at university with coding and chemistry, breaking down tricky ideas into simple, step-by-step explanations. She knows what it feels like to be stuck and how targeted questions can unlock understanding and confidence. Having benefitted from one-on-one English tutoring herself in high school, she understands both sides of the tutoring relationship and brings patience, empathy and structure to each session, aiming to build independence rather than just provide answers.

Organised, Engaging and Values-Driven Tutor

Beyond her studies, Mila has organised events as a social convenor for a student residence, planning activities, leading meetings and making sure everyone felt included. This experience helps her keep lessons well-planned, on time and engaging for different personalities. She is also involved in an environmental youth group, reflecting her sense of responsibility and care for the future. Parents can expect this tutor to be reliable, communicative and genuinely invested in helping students feel confident and capable in their learning.
