I believe an important part of tutoring is to ensure I really get to know the children individually to understand how I can best tailor the sessions to their individual needs, and the best chance of success. It is important to create lessons that inspire children to become self motivated learners, sparking imagination through bringing learning to…

According to me the most important thing for the tutor is to understand that not all students understand concepts the same way and sense when students do not understand something and willingly try another approach of presenting the material to help the student. With this approach a tutor can make a difference in the student’s learning. I believe…

The most important thing according to me is to get my point across crystal clear, whether it takes days or even if it takes to apologize for a mistake previously made. I would always own my actions and make an effort. Every child is important and so it is very important to understand that each one of them works at a different pace and one has to…

The most important thing a tutor can do is be encouraging and have faith in the student. Personally, when I used to have tutors, I performed the best when they reiterated, “you can do it! it’s not about the brain you were born with, it’s about how far you’re willing to go in terms of dedication and hard work,†and that stuck with me.…

Thus, my tutoring experience provided me with a safe space to propose any difficulties that I was experiencing in class, which is what I believe is the most important thing…

Encourage them to pursue their dreams. Teach them to be lifelong learners. I believe you have completely understood the concept when you can simplify it entirely. So, the student should totally grasp the concepts at hand. A tutor can help the student realize their passions, and help them achieve it. Making the students interested in the subject by…

To help them learn and understand the topic or subject by heart. Also, be able to understand the students as well, as tutoring is like being fluent in a language. One must be able to understand what the speaker is saying as well as being able to deliver the message to the listener accurately and understandably. My strengths includes patience,…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is understand the student’s point of view and teach in a fun, engaging way that makes it easier for them to learn. I think the most important stuff a tutor can do is boost confidence to students. You have to make students believe they can tackle anything. It's also about giving tips on studying and problem-solving that fit them perfectly. Making learning fun and showing why it matters in real life—gets them to learn more. I think my strengths as a tutor are…

The most crucial role of a tutor is to guide and support students in a way that suits their unique needs. This means adapting lessons to their learning style, helping them gain confidence, and encouraging them to think critically. Effective communication is key, as it allows students to express concerns and receive helpful feedback. Regularly…

I think that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make that student interested in what they are learning. Although students may not enjoy every aspect of what they're learning, if they can find even one thing that they enjoy, this could be enough. I am patient, determined, and kind to those that I tutor. So, I think that…

Over the years, I have developed the opinion that the teaching of transferable skills - contrary to only what is needed at the moment - is most valuable for the student’s future development. It is important to see that just completing the mandatory homework will not suffice, the real challenge is to change the mindset. As a good tutor, one has…

Helping students build confidence is arguably the most important and beneficial thing a tutor can do. I firmly believe that confidence is the building block of success, and that, by bringing it out of a student, a tutor can unlock the student's full potential, and empower them to expand their skills and capabilities. Volunteering as an instructor…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to encourage them to be self-sufficient - I'm a firm believer that anybody can study by themselves, and that tutors are there to help the student bounce ideas off and help break down hard to digest pieces of education. I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student is give the student the support and assistance they need in ways that their classroom teachers cannot. The most important things a tutor can do for their student is make themselves alaways available to help their student, whether it is a full lesson or just a quick question over the phone, just being a constant support to the student is of such high value. Another important thing a tutor can do, is alter their teaching for each student. Everyone…

Inside North BondiTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Lily focused on improving her multiplication tables and division skills, using Mathletics activities for extra practice.

In Year 9, Josh worked through algebraic equations and indices revision in preparation for upcoming tests, while also strengthening his understanding of rates and ratios.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Mia tackled non-right angled trigonometry by applying the Sine and Cosine Rules to triangle problems, and reviewed true bearings as part of exam preparation.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student struggled with bringing required materials to sessions, as noted when "he did not bring the past papers that I had previously given him," which slowed exam practice and meant key mistakes went unreviewed.

In a Year 10 lesson, anxiety about time led to incomplete checking of answers on financial math trial papers—several conversion errors were missed because the focus was on finishing quickly rather than accuracy.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student hesitated to attempt subtraction without finger-counting, often pausing mid-question, especially when numbers became larger or less familiar. This pattern left her unsure and frustrated during timed drills.

Recent Achievements

A North Bondi tutor noticed a real shift in Oliver, a high school student who came prepared with completed homework and took the initiative to identify where he needed help—after practicing simultaneous equations, he could tackle them without hesitation.

Another high schooler, Taiaroa, moved from struggling at the start of sessions to confidently using his notes to solve worded maths problems independently, showing much more focus and self-reliance than before.

In primary years, Ava began splitting non-whole numbers herself during addition tasks—something she'd previously hesitated to try—and finished all her questions without prompts.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Double Bay Central Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Reddam House, Bondi Campus.
