he most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence. When students believe in themselves, they are more willing to tackle challenges and grow. Another key aspect is tailoring the learning experience to their individual needs every student learns differently, and it's important to adapt to their strengths and areas for…

To develop critical thinking and a problem solving attitude in a student so that they can themselves breakdown a complex question into easier, doable sections to reach to the solution. This will help the student to clarify their concepts without the tutor directly providing them with the solution but instead leading them through a simplified…

It is most important for a tutor to engage with the student, so that they will be more inclined to be attentive and take the lessons seriously. It is also neccesary to make the neccesary preperations required for the student, e.g background research for foreign topics/ or remodled questions, to suit the student's needs and allow for efficient…

I believe that truly successful tutors create a positive learning environment for their students where questions and mistakes are rewarded and examined in order to address all of the student's queries on the content. Not only is this environment a highly effective way to ensure a deep understanding of the course, it encourages curiosity and makes…

Genuinely understanding the students need and tailoring the best approach of teaching accordingly is the best thing a tutor can do. No students are same and have same level of intelligence and this should be considered by the teacher. As a tutor, my biggest strength is that i genuinely love teaching not just solving problems, but explaining deeply…

I believe tutors exist to help extend the foundations of what students are taught in schools, whether it be through analysing old concepts with a finer view or reinforcing newer concepts with carefully selected examples and analogies. I believe I am quite capable of exercising patience when a student is trying to understand the subject, trying to…

Being patient. A lot of teachers get frustrated when students do not understand concepts the way they teach them. It is important to teach every student in their own way and be patient with the teaching process. Otherwise a student's confidence and motivation to learn is harmed. My biggest strength would be communication. I am adept at explaining…

A trait I consider to be very important as a tutor is being a good leader. They should be very responsible for their actions, meaning that they will ensure each tutoring session is effective for the student. They should also be assertive, trustworthy and mindful, which helps them offer guidance to other students. Lastly, they should keep an open…

Make the student love the subject. There are many ways varying from a student to the other. If a student falls in love with the subject, he will comprehend it, not just learn it. I started tutoring when i was in undergraduate to my own class fellows and that was in 2002. With such a vast experience i have amazing teaching skills built-in…

Understand the student, be patient with them and rather than becoming the student's boss, become their leader/role model and guide them towards their goals. A tutor should be there to support the student through all academic struggles they are facing and help the student reach all their academic goals. The tutor should be familiar with their students learning style and preferences, then adjust their tutoring to suit. A tutor should also create a safe environment where the student feels they can ask…

I have rarely ever used the same method of explaining a concept/theory on multiple students. To create a supportive, encouraging environment where they feel safe to make mistakes and grow. Human connection is the foundation of effective learning. Ezymath Tutoring have provide us with great service and tutors this year. Whenever we have had any issues arise we get prompt, polite and friendly service from the team. We had to change maths tutors mid term in term 2 and this was sorted out with a new tutor being provided who was suitable and friendly within 24 hours which was an amazing turnaround. Emails and phone calls are always answered promptly and with care. I would recommend their services to anyone whose child needs tutoring in any subject!

Inside North EppingTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 Jack focused on manipulating algebraic equations, including expanding brackets and solving for variables, as well as revising simple interest and taxes using real-world examples.

Year 10 Siena worked through percentage error and absolute error calculations, then began exploring perimeters with upper and lower bounds alongside maximum error scenarios.

For Year 12 Matt, recent sessions targeted Faraday's law and Lenz's law in electromagnetism, plus extended response writing techniques to strengthen his physics trial exam performance.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student often hesitated to recall formulas for indices and trigonometry, reaching for notes or a formula sheet during revision instead of relying on memory. He needed reminders about which technique to use, one tutor noted after multi-step algebra tasks.

In Year 11 Physics, the struggle was with leaving multiple-choice questions blank in exams, losing easy marks by not attempting guesses.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner sometimes avoided writing out workings when uncertain—taking extra time to get started, especially with worded problems or fractions. This slowed progress and made it harder to catch up with classwork after absences.

Recent Achievements

A North Epping tutor noticed that a Year 11 student, Matt, now brings his trickiest physics questions to sessions and has started choosing the correct formula on his own for complex calculations—something he struggled with before.

In Year 10, Levi is tackling algebraic equations independently; last week he completed all set factorisation and expansion problems without help, a real shift from needing step-by-step guidance.

Meanwhile, Siena in Year 6 has begun talking through her thinking out loud when uncertain instead of working quietly and guessing—her tutor observed she now marks her workbook with notes on mistakes as she goes.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Epping Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Epping North Public School.
