Support their discovery of the subject they have a difficulty in understanding. NOT to think for them, instead, challenge them to use their own capacity to think solutions and have the unlimited courage to make mistakes and learn from them. My strengths as a tutor include patience, perseverance and insight into the misunderstandings and challenges…

A tutor is a guide to show the right path. Students might stumble a lot, but tutor should hold him up, stand by him and show the right direction. Never giving up on a student, looking for opportunities to advance their skill is what a tutor should always do. I try to explain things from the student's perspective. For example, a gamer might…

I think making students feel like they're being seen and heard is a really powerful thing, and to make clear that a tutor isn't just a fixed resource like a book or a video but someone you can interact with and learn from just from someone being there to guide you. I think learning from someone showing you is so much more powerful than just…

The most important thing for a tutor to do to a student is to be able to connect with them on a level that allows them to understand the content. Not being able to form a connection with the student makes the learning process tough. It is important to find an approach that enables the student to succeed. As a tutor, I am able to connect with the…

A tutor should break down complex concepts into manageable parts, helping students understand rather than just…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is being prepared. I have had 1-1 Spanish tutoring in the past, and every week my tutor would arrive prepared with documents and interactive lessons, which were fundamental in enriching my learning of the subject and making the sessions more enjoyable. Additionally, the tutor needs to maintain…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to ensure that the child fully understands the lesson, and finds purpose in it. The student should not only study it because it is a requirement, but because they find it interesting, This I believe is a very crucial task for tutors. If a child is passionate about a subject, they will automatically study…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to show the student that through perseverance they can be good at the subject, and to appreciate the subject's content for what it is. Another important feature is instilling confidence in the student as that is a skill that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. I am currently…

If it's a correct match of a student and a teacher, then definitely a tutor can change the overall personality of his student and in turn learn from him as well. It's not only about grades and positions but about life changing lessons that a tutor can give to his students. I am dedicated and true to my students, and according to me this is the…

Many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they doubt themselves. In this case, it is important for the tutor to encourage students and create a supportive learning environment in a way that helps the student see their progress. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is help a student believe in themselves. When students feel supported and not judged, they are much more willing to ask questions and try again when something feels hard. It is also important to guide them rather than just give answers. A good tutor helps students understand how to think through…

The most important thing I can do for a student is be flexible and patient with them and build a newfound sense of confidence. I believe it is extremely important for a tutor to have similar hobbies or experiences to the student so that the student feels comfortable and safe by taking out the power balance many often feel between their tutor or teacher. This also helps as content taught in our sessions will flow better, and create more engagement from the student. Having…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to ignite a student's curiosity and passion for learning. When a student finds joy in the process, success naturally follows. Inside North SydneyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Olivia focused on networks and diagrams as well as advanced trigonometry, revising concepts using assignment questions and targeted practice.

Year 10 student James worked through exponential and other non-linear graphing alongside financial mathematics revision, strengthening understanding with textbook exercises and real-life examples.

For Year 6, Emma tackled properties of quadrilaterals and triangles—including congruency tests—while also reviewing composite area questions and coordinate plane skills to prepare for her upcoming assessment.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student was hesitant to attempt problem-solving questions involving algebra, often deferring to decimals—her tutor noted she "seemed slightly hesitant" and avoided the unfamiliar, which limited growth in new techniques.

In Year 8, a student's written work on nets was sometimes unclear due to repeated shapes in different orientations; this made it hard for both teacher and student to spot errors efficiently.

A Year 11 lesson revealed revision time focused mostly on easier material, so weak areas like graphing and congruency proofs weren't reinforced before tests.

Missed opportunities for feedback also slowed progress in linear work (Year 10).

Recent Achievements

One North Sydney tutor noticed a real shift with a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to explain her thinking; now she's actively talking through each geometry problem, showing much more willingness to share how she arrives at answers.

Another high school student surprised himself by managing all the extension questions in a challenging revision session—he even asked for extra practice on areas he'd once avoided.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who used to skip writing out steps is now consistently setting out her working for every question, making it easier for her to spot and fix mistakes herself.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Stanton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like SHORE - Sydney Church of England Grammar School.
