The most important thing a physics tutor can do for a student is help them realise the small learning mistakes commonly made that in my opinion are not useful further in life. Namely, learning my heart or just memorising to blurt out a concept without understanding its core only to score good grades. A Tutor should be able to make the student…

Having someone to rely on. The tutor and student connection is more personal that that of a teacher. This allows them to become closer and ensure that the student will concentrate more. Additionally a close connection between he student and tutor reminds the student that they always have someone on there side. Someone who they can rely on and work…

I understand that teachers don't always have time to help students one-on-one and that tutors can help bridge the gap. I believe that learning is an exponential process, so a small victory in a physics tutoring session can lead to enormous benefits in the student's future. I am passionate about enabling students to maximise their…

Foremost, a physics tutor should help their student to identify and reach their goals. Knowing what is important to the student and incorporating that into the metrics for success will help them feel like they are making progress. And secondly, tutors should help the student to form good habits; as motivation can only take one so far,…

A tutor shouldn't be the individual who would only be associated with studies and stuff. A tutor should be someone to whom a student can approach with any sorts of problem with the expectation that their tutor can find a solution to it. Moreover, a physics tutor should be a guiding light to the student. - Communication - Experience -…

Its a very open question in my point of view but, if I want to say it as brief as I can its backing them up making them reach a certain level and then teaching them how to fish instead of just giving them fish and when they learn how to fish giving them tips for catching bigger fish. Local Reviews

Henry was very happy with Hayden's style of tutoring. He found him clear and concise in the way he explained methods, and was teaching him the same way his teacher is at school. Whilst I was listening in the background I could hear that Hayden was very encouraging towards Henry which I'm sure gave him some confidence to tackle the next equation. I know that Hayden will leave more and more homework going forward, he was keen to get to know Henry as a person, identify his strengths and weaknesses first.

Inside OakleighTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Olivia worked through solving quadratic equations and practiced graphing equations, using examples to connect algebraic solutions with their graphical representations.

In Year 11, Harry focused on applying the rational root theorem to polynomials and tackled quartic equations from recent exam questions.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student James completed Math Methods Chapter 7 example problems, emphasizing function analysis and calculus applications relevant to his upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9, one student's written work in algebra showed he skipped showing steps, which hid sign errors—this meant time was lost retracing calculations instead of moving forward.

A Year 11 student tackling calculus became distracted during sessions and often left questions incomplete when focus slipped.

For a Year 6 learner, diagrams and tables were sometimes missing or messy, making it hard to track working in worded problems.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student avoided writing out full solutions for fraction tasks, as noted: "just full working out," resulting in missed marks on tests even when the method was understood.

Recent Achievements

One Oakleigh tutor recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to avoid asking for help now confidently brings up challenging calculus questions at the start of each session, keen to tackle them together.

Another high schooler had been struggling with test mistakes in algebra but has started identifying exactly where she went wrong and correcting her own work before asking for feedback—a real shift from needing step-by-step guidance.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who was hesitant with multiplication tables is now reciting them unprompted and focusing for longer stretches during lessons, finishing all assigned problems independently last week.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Oakleigh Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
