The most important things a tutor can do for a student is help them gain the tools necessary to be able to succeed on their own. As a tutor, helping students not only believe in themselves, but also helping them gain the strategies and tools to overcome difficult academic and non-academic problems is an important thing. Tutors need to not just…

A tutor should be someone very good at analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of a student and helping them accordingly. A tutor should be able to lay out proper guidelines for the student in order for them to be able to reach their target and goals. The important thing that a tutor can give a student is time and attention which he might not get in classroom of students. Make the student feel the subject is not difficult by explaining concepts step wise. The tutor can also build self-confidence and problem-solving skills by making him approach the issue first and then guide the correct…

One of the important things a tutor can do for a student is offer a different angle on the importance of what they're learning and developing an interest in an area of study. This can help them decided what to pursue in further study, or just build good life habits. I believe my strength as a tutor is being able to be patient with students. Over…

One of the most important thing a tutor can do is to listen to student and learn where he/she has doubts or needs help. Another important thing for a tutor is to encourage and give positive reinforcement to a student which helps the student gain confidence and in turn helps him to study better(especially for a tough subject). According to me the most important trait in a tutor is patience. It is not necessary that each child learns at the same pace. A tutor should also possess the ability to create and provide problem statements which help the student to get a grip over the topic. Along with a good speaker a tutor must be a good listener making the session more…

I think spending time to change your whole approach of teaching because one of your student is unable to understand the whole content. Being honest and flexible is very important things a tutor can have. Flexible, patient, good listener and helping nature. Being flexible about the teaching approach because every individual has different way of…

I would say, be supportive and a good listener are the most important things a tutor should offer to students. Based on my previous experience, students sometimes lack motivations to finish their school homework either they are too tired from school, or they just don't understand the school materials well. As a tutor, this could be an opportunity…

I think one is being able to guide the student in his/her learning. Equally important is to be able to acknowledge the student's unique style of learning and use that to develop strategies to make learning easy and fun for the student. I think that I am able to simplify complex concepts and be able to create a strategic step-by-step approach in…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to build both understanding and confidence. A tutor can certainly change a child's mindset towards any subject because it all depends on making the basics of a subject strong so that there is no further problem. i must mention that I personally believe that there is no such thing as a silly question, so whatever doubts a student might face even if he assumes it to be silly, I am always…

Inside Para VistaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Jack focused on multiplication tables and fractions, using visual aids to strengthen understanding.

In Year 8, Sarah worked through algebraic equations and inequalities as part of test preparation, with targeted practice on solving for unknowns.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Liam tackled coordinate geometry problems and revised consumer arithmetic skills by working through real-world scenarios.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Maths, Esma often used a calculator for simple arithmetic instead of mental strategies, slowing progress in more complex tasks; as one tutor noted, "she relied on the calculator when estimating sums that should be quick."

Meanwhile, Kyra (Year 11) sometimes avoided writing full working for equations and formulas, making it difficult to spot errors or remember steps later.

In Year 4, Mabel quickly answered division questions using a memorized "book trick" but couldn't explain her reasoning when asked to show working—this led to confusion when faced with unfamiliar problem types.

Brianna (Year 7) hesitated to review feedback after mistakes.

Recent Achievements

One Para Vista tutor noted that Kyra, a high school student, used to rely heavily on her calculator for maths but has recently started attempting more problems independently before asking for help.

Alisha, also in high school, was hesitant with percentages earlier but now remembers how to apply them and moves through word problems much faster.

Meanwhile, younger student Mabel showed new initiative by tackling division questions unprompted—she worked out the answers quickly and even explained her method aloud without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ingle Farm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Good Shepherd Lutheran School - Para Vista.
