I consider the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to ultimately inspire them in a love of learning and hopefully pass onto them capsules of knowledge which are priceless. My strengths as a tutor are to challenge the pupils to think abstractly about language and harness the true power it possesses. I love hearing the pupil's own…

In my opinion, a tutor must be able to empathize with the student and create a safe space for them. Its important to be constructive and patient especially with the ones that take time to grasp topics. One must keep instructions clear and always strive to empower the child by focusing on their strengths. Engage them instead of lecturing…

Give moral support and guidance. As a tutor, I don't give answers or solve the student's work, I want them to be able to solve it themselves and use their critical thinking skills with their knowledge of subject content. Subjects can be tough, as a tutor, I need to find ways to convey the same subject in an easier, convenient way to understand it.…

Something that sets me apart from many other tutors is that I’m very relatable, something which I think is very important to a student. Personally, I’ve known in the past what it’s like to sometimes struggle academically, however, experience has shown me that part of it what it takes to succeed is a great work ethic and an awesome mentor.…

I believe that getting high grades in school is not the most important goal for my student (although this is something we work towards), but rather what is most important for me as a tutor is to see them learn, progress and improve each time. A tutor has to be patient and welcoming for their students. The reason these students come for tutoring is because they face difficulty keeping up with school. So they should be given the space to understand at their own pace, in their own method and a teacher needs to recognize that. We need to recognize the method which we choose to teach a…

A tutor must be patient, flexible, honest and attentive. It is important that tutors do not give students the answer directly but allows the student to discover the answer with extra guidance. The ultimate goal of tutoring is to help students become independent learners. A tutor must be willing to adapt to different situations and learning…

It is very important as a tutor to understand your student. Be his silent friend and connect with him. Read his mental abilities, his interest, observe his qualities and disabilities, his way of learning things. And then try to impart the teaching depending on all these factors. Each student is different and so is the method of teaching. Teaching…

I believe the most powerful way a tutor can aid a student is by giving them confidence. More than often, students can show more vulnerability in a one-on-one session than in a classroom surrounded by their peers, and so the best thing I can do is use these private sessions to impart confidence in the students by making them see ways they can…

Inside ParadiseTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Damon practised writing imaginative narratives by planning story structure and developing introductions designed to hook readers, while also working on spelling through "look, say, cover, write, check" activities with a set of eight words.

Year 8 student Eliza focused on understanding gradients of perpendicular and parallel lines in coordinate geometry and practised finding equations of lines using graphing techniques.

For Year 9, Ashton revised DNA structure and replication in preparation for a biology test, covering the processes of mitosis using diagrams to reinforce key differences between stages.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 English, one student needed encouragement before isolating the major idea of the author, but often forgot to bring source material for essay evidence—this slowed deeper analysis and made referencing harder.

A Year 9 Maths learner relied heavily on calculators, rarely showing written steps; this habit masked errors in algebraic rearrangement and led to repeated mistakes when formulas changed.

In a primary English session, messy handwriting and fidgeting with objects made it difficult for the student to transfer spoken ideas onto paper, particularly during imaginative writing tasks.

Each scenario resulted in lost time clarifying misunderstandings rather than building new skills.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Paradise noticed a big shift for one primary student who now initiates creative writing tasks by first drawing his own story map, which helps him plan and finish imaginative narratives—something he previously avoided.

For Year 10 English, Jayden used to struggle providing evidence in essays but has recently started structuring responses with clear PEEL paragraphs and even integrated detailed examples without prompting.

Meanwhile, a senior Physics student showed new independence by bringing forward her own tricky topics at the start of sessions and worked through exam-style questions with less guidance than before, successfully answering nearly all problems on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbelltown Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sunrise Christian School Paradise.
