I believe explaining a concept in such a way that the student understands it intuitively and can thus use that understanding to solve different problems, rather than simply rote-learning a series of facts, is an incredibly important part of being a tutor. The tutor should be adding to a student's toolkit such that they can solve a variety of…

I can make the student not only competent, but also comfortable and confident in a certain topic. I understand how stressful hard subjects can be. I want to take away the feeling of fear when students enter a class they think they're not good in. Another thing is teaching a student to be an autodidact. I was fortunate enough to know this tactic…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to build confidence in their student's learning, guild them to think critically and solve problems independently. A competent tutor will create a supportive environment, encourage their students to ask questions, and allow them to develop the skills required for success in their future studies. My…

Not only does it empower them for life, but it also brings me genuine satisfaction to support that growth I am friendly, felxible, available and very communicative and I believe this is an advantage dealing with kids and understanding…

Be present and listen to them, acknowledging their issues without judgment, allowing their voices to be heard and seen. This enables you to gain their respect and trust, making it easier for your guidance to be passed on. I believe I am a patient, kind, and caring person, meeting people where they are without passing judgment. I like…

To give the student confidence and show them that the subject is not beyond their understandings. Prove that It's not difficult but needs to be approached correctly. Almost all students have more than enough talent to do their study, the most import thing in tutoring is to help them to uncover that (sometimes) hidden talent. In addition to my…

Tutors need to be patient, not every student is equally as smart, or equally as attentive. You have to find a balance. A great example I think would be is planting a seed. After you put the seed in the ground, you can put all the water in the world, but it's not gonna grow into a tree in just one day, just like a student, you will break the…

I think one of the most important things about tutoring is to help students not only understand what they need to do, but also why they need to do it, alongside techniques to perform well in assessments. In my opinion, there are three main factors to consider: 1) Solve all the doubts that the student has. 2) Encourage students to continue exploring in depth the topic that is learned. so he can better understand what he is studying only if he can constantly practice. 3) Encourage students to ask, to do research, to challenge themselves in…

More important than anything else, an effective tutor must be able to meet the student at their level, whether that is their level of understanding or lack thereof of a given topic, or even going the extra mile and help the student address or deal with the external circumstances they face that affect their academic performance. My main strengths…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is provide a structured learning environment. Often, the biggest source of exam-related stress is feeling overwhelmed by the amount of material and not seeing the connections between topics. A tutor should help students make sense of this by summarizing key concepts and looking ahead,…

The most important thing I can do for a student is providing the tools and resources to be able to tackle problems independently, no matter the difficulty. The assistance for gaining problem solving ability allows the student to solve about 50% of the task and remaining 50% comes with practice. This aspect to develop Problem solving skills is essential and most important thing a tutor can do. I can explain any concept given to me in the my domain with the most rudimentary approach. Which allows to…

Inside ParkwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student David worked on understanding probability concepts, interpreting measures of spread, and reading two-way tables and Venn diagrams.

For Year 10, Lucy revised algebraic skills including solving linear equations and drawing linear graphs to strengthen her grasp of core algebra topics.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Molly focused on Mathematics Methods by practicing differentiation techniques and exploring their real-world applications using sample problems.

Recent Challenges

Ongoing challenges with homework completion, especially in maths, were evident across several students in both Year 6 and senior secondary levels—"needs to do the home works" recurred in multiple sessions, even after lessons on fractions and multiplication charts.

In a Year 11 Mathematics Methods session, incomplete review of past test papers meant some error patterns persisted into new topics.

One Year 7 student avoided writing out working for surface area problems, making it difficult to spot where confusion began.

"Forgot to convert units" was a stumbling block in geometry tasks; time was lost re-explaining basic conversions rather than deepening problem-solving skills.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Parkwood noticed a Year 11 student who previously needed step-by-step guidance with Chemistry was able to tackle sample assessment problems on intermolecular forces almost entirely on his own this week.

Another high schooler made a leap in Maths by independently recognising the connection between algebraic and graphical solutions—a skill he'd struggled to link before.

For a younger student, after weeks of guessing silent letters in spelling tasks, she's now pausing to check each word carefully and correct herself before moving on. Last session, she completed her worksheet without needing any reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Riverton Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Parkwood Primary School.
