I am a very patient individual. Having freshly graduated from high school, I am able to relate to any struggle students may be facing and help them to mentally…

The most important things a tutor can do is help students understand that being wrong or not being as fast or as good at studying is not a bad thing. A tutor must go at the students pace, not rush them and be patient as possible. Of course it is important to teach the students what they need but also help them grow and feel comfortable. I am very…

Since everyone learns in different ways and at a different rate, I think the most important thing a tutor can do for their student is being patient with them and doing their best to teach the content in ways that resonate with their students specifically as individuals. - Strong understanding of mathematics - Very patient - Can explain things in…

I believe that all providers of education should not only prepare a student for an exam, but to open the student's eyes to the wider world, where they can explore their passions. In this way, I consider confidence an important aspect that a tutor can provide to a student. School can sometimes feel so impossible, when sitting in a large classroom…

Good communication. Being able to properly connect with the student is important in building trust so that the student is open and honest about their ability and will ask questions when they don't understand new or existing concepts. One would be motivation. Motivation is important for a student in their learning as it allows students to achieve their personal best and good results in their subjects as well as increase their productivity in class and possibly their enjoyment in their subjects. Another important factor would be to help students continually improve. Nowadays…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to enrich their understanding and reinvigorate or catalyze a passion in a particular subject. Nowadays, a student's passion for a particular subject dwindles as they go further and further into their high school career. This may be due to external factors such as pressure or…

Probably to make sure they understand the underlying material rather than just giving the answers. The most important things the tutor should do for a student are understanding where the student needs more help, which is the advantage a private tutoring can provide, being patient with the student's understanding, bringing the enthusiasm to the class so the student can be more energised, be well prepared for all the content thoroughly before the…

Ultimately, a tutor must teach his/her student to be able to rely on themselves and think autonomously when problem solving i.e. not to be afraid of trial and error. I would say my strengths are attributes such as patience with the student (repetition when necessary), determination in getting the message across, and a friendly attitude towards all…

Listen, for a student to learn they ask questions and it’s important for a tutor to be able to listen and respond. I think my strengths are in my patience and empathy. I think the support a tutor should have for their student should not only be academic in nature– but rather, I believe the student's leadership qualities and extracurricular potential should be a focus for any tutor. Although high results is a must, tutors should also respect or accept what students may want to gain out of their HSC marks. We cannot force students to learn but making the content more interesting will help motivate those who struggle to grasp the concept. The key point is that after every session, the student can leave knowing that they have…

Students often break down because they feel everything that is happening to them is unique to them. In reality this is not true, thus as a tutor I believe the most important thing is to be supportive to the student, but also being able to provide responses which are tailored to the understanding/way of learning of the student. My understanding of…

Tutors can provide a one-on-one situation where they're able to realise the students weaknesses and target those areas. They can also be someone else for the students to ask questions where they may be too shy or unable to during a large classroom environment. Tutoring can also help reinforce content that students learnt that day or week. I am a…

Establish a comfortable environment for the student to enjoy the learning journey rather than be seen as a tool. Inside Pleasure PointTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Mia worked through homework tasks involving perimeter and length, as well as addition, multiplication, and division to check her maths level.

In Year 7, Emily focused on solving algebraic equations for x and practiced multiplying monomials and binomials in preparation for upcoming topics.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Lucas tackled linear relationships by graphing straight lines from equations and explored coordinate geometry using example problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, one student often hesitated during multi-step algebra and geometry problems, pausing for reassurance before writing answers—"she kept asking if what she was writing made sense," a tutor noted. This pattern led to incomplete working and sometimes missing final answers in tests, especially under time pressure.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner's bookwork became difficult to follow when fractions with unlike denominators appeared; inconsistent layout hid errors until they were pointed out.

In both cases, anxiety about correctness slowed progress and left key steps unpracticed, causing confusion during more complex or unfamiliar exam tasks.

Recent Achievements

One Pleasure Point tutor recently noticed a big change in a Year 10 student, Leila: she's started catching her own mistakes and back-checking answers before the tutor steps in, which wasn't happening a few weeks ago.

During practice exams, she now explains where she went wrong and corrects herself without prompting.

Another high school session saw Leila confidently ask for tougher graphing questions after finishing the standard set—a first for her, as she used to hesitate with new topics.

Meanwhile, a younger student who previously struggled with fractions completed an entire worksheet on adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Panania Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Panania Public School.
