The most important thing a tutor can do is not only to support a student but to make them feel as though they have accomplished what they set out to achieve, even if it is a small goal, as long as it gets fulfilled. I believe that I can personalise the amount of help I provide to a student, no matter their abilities. This will allow me to ensure…

My biggest strength is breaking difficult concepts into smaller steps. I try to explain why we do each step rather than just memorising formulas without understanding them. Once students…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to build a student’s confidence, explain concepts clearly, and provide consistent support. A good tutor should be patient, listen to the student’s difficulties, and help them develop problem-solving skills rather than just giving answers. Encouraging independence and motivation is also…

The tutor needs to make sure that all the questions of the student are answered really well. Most importantly, the tutor needs to be a role model for the student. I think a tutor can give a student a lot but the most important thing is boosting the morale of the student. A teacher has the power to build up or tear down a students's self-esteem and make a student's day or ruin it in an instant. So, a teacher must fill the role of someone who has the best interests of every child at heart. The main focus…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is just be patient with them. As students are brought up in a competitive environment in school, most times they feel inferior to their peers as not everyone learns at the same pace. Some learn faster and some learn slower and most often students feel lost and pressured. As a tutor, being there for…

Change of a student's viewpoint towards a subject. Once the attitude is changed rest is easy. Science is the study of natural laws and math is the universal language. We are studying nature in science and writing it down in math. It is very important for a student to feel connection to a subject. Not every student has the same thought process,…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is teach them to feel confident and enjoy the subject they are currently struggling in. It's important is to not show the student everything and complete their work for them. Tutoring is about enabling the student to complete work and content by explaining concepts to them so they understand what the question is asking them and explain to the child what the question is asking and then assisting them where they need to succeed. I…

A tutor can provide much greater flexibility than a teacher in a class room setting. Inside PlentyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 Emily practised finding surface area and volume of complex 3D shapes, then reviewed key geometry concepts in preparation for her measurement test.

In Year 11, Indie focused on polynomials and differentiation techniques to consolidate understanding before a major maths assessment.

For Year 12, recent sessions with Jack involved estimating the area under curves using integration and revisiting logarithms alongside circular functions through worked examples and discussion.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths, one student hesitated to attempt complex differentiation questions, expressing "difficulty in solving complex Algebra expressions," which led to gaps when tackling multi-step problems.

In Year 8, panic during timed assessments resulted in a lower score than expected; as noted, "panic under time constraints (possibly due to not being so confident?) might be the cause."

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student often doubted her correct answers and avoided attempting worded problems without reassurance. This uncertainty slowed progress on application tasks and meant she sometimes left parts of assignments incomplete during sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Plenty tutor noticed a real shift with Indie (Year 11), who, after missing classes, not only caught up on complex differentiation topics but came prepared to sessions with specific questions and managed to solve her own Logarithms problems once discussion began—previously she would have waited for step-by-step help.

In Year 10, Ryan quickly recalled prior years' concepts and confidently tackled new gradient and intercept problems he used to find confusing.

Meanwhile, Emily in Year 6 has started recognizing her own small errors in linear graph drawing between sessions, correcting them herself without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Diamond Valley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Thomas the Apostle School.
