The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them not just what to think, but how to think. Its about providing them with strategies to find their own answers. I always found I remembered and used formulas much more effectively when I understood the reasons behind them, and why they worked, and would like to help others come…

Build interest. For younger student, most of them are still trying to find their interest in a certain field. The best thing I can do is to build interest with my humorous skill. Interest can lead students to an automatic learning mode, they will intake the related knowledge and digest them by themselves, and have the ability to do self-study,…

The most important thing that a tutor can do is ensure that a student learns and doesn't hate a subject. I understand that grades are equally important my ensuring that the knowledge has reached the student is even more so important. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is reassure them that it is perfectly normal to not understand a topic straight away. Tutors must make sure that students are not ashamed of needing help, and do not feel 'stupid' or 'dumb' for not understanding. I am a very patient person who is good at listening. When I am in a tutoring role…

Being able to help a student achieve future problems on their own by helping them understand how to do a problem rather than just providing the solution is one of the most important things I consider a tutor can do for a student. I also think it's important to be prepared to help them with their topics by preparing first myself. I believe my…

Inspire students to understand the importance and broader concepts within mathematics. Also translate the mathematics to a way a student can understand - perhaps look at it more graphically, or by using a real world example - and by breaking down a complex problem into simple, easy to understand parts. I think tutors should be understanding to help them in the best way that they can, like being there for your students, not as a crutch but as someone who can amplify their learning. Teaching students concepts and filling gaps in their knowledge and learning techniques helps them create a strong foundation, which will help them build their…

A tutor MUST make the student comfortable with their learning by building a friendship with them, so that they always want to return to EZY Math Tutoring. A tutor must also put aside everything else in their life to assist the student: even if I have a bad day I cannot let that lessen my performance while teaching the student. Finally, a tutor…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are build the student's confidence and make them feel safe to ask questions without judgement. Be adaptable. Everyone learns differently and it is the tutor's job to be able to work with the different learning styles. I find that this is the most challenging to get the grasp of as it varies widely across all sorts of students, however, once a tutor learns how a student processes different problems and is able to cater their explanations;…

Inside Plympton ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Finn practised adding and subtracting multi-digit numbers and worked through word problems involving these operations.

In Year 9, James revised circular motion in Physics—clarifying centripetal force—and reviewed key statistics concepts such as mean, median, and mode using his school test materials.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Una focused on preparing for upcoming assessments by tackling break-even analysis and capital gains calculations in Maths, while also reviewing atomic theory basics in Chemistry.

Recent Challenges

During a Year 8 session, Mavis left her math booklet at home, which meant time was lost re-explaining previously covered concepts.

In Year 11 Chemistry, another struggled to recall technical terms—she could explain ideas but couldn't name them, as in "the reproduce at different times one" instead of 'temporal isolation'.

A senior student avoided answering questions when unsure; this habit led to gaps during practice tests.

Meanwhile, a Year 3 student focused only on easy times tables and avoided harder multiplication facts, which slowed progress in mixed-operation problems.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Plympton Park noticed a real shift for Mavis, who used to hesitate with reading aloud but recently volunteered to read the comprehension text herself and tackled tricky words without prompting—she even asked about unfamiliar terms instead of skipping them.

In Year 11 Chemistry, Una has started catching her own calculation mistakes and correcting them on the spot, which is a big change from needing step-by-step guidance before.

Another high school session saw Chloe independently solving several algebra problems after previously relying on hints for each step; she finished by working through two questions entirely on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Marion Mobile Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Forbes Primary School.
