The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be supportive and encouraging of the abilities they already have, while pushing them to learn and achieve as much as they can. I believe my biggest strengths to be my patience as a teacher, and my ability to tackle different problems from various angles. I find it better to spend time…

Along with my problem-solving skills, my deeper understanding of the subjects is important for my student as well. I have strong communication skills which allow me to engage with students, making their…

A good tutor plays a vital role in a student's learning journey by fostering both understanding and confidence. Beyond simply delivering content, an effective tutor identifies the student's strengths and weaknesses, adapts their teaching approach accordingly, and ensures that concepts are truly understood rather than memorized. They encourage…

A tutor can engage the mind of a child and develop a love for the subject within the child. Education has the power to broaden horizons and inculcate a sense of satisfaction which I believe can be brought in by the help of a tutor. Being able to communicate at a level that the child understands is a must. As a tutor, you must be able to build a…

Building confidence is the best thing a tutor can do for a student. Students may need tutors because they don't enjoy the subject, they find it hard, they do poorly, or all of the above. The tutors' role is to be the balance between a teacher and a friend. Helping them understand the questions they have in a relaxed environment is a good way to…

From my previous experience teaching a lot of students. The most vital point the student wants from their mentor is compassion and sympathy to connect with them. Once I can connect with them, I can understand at what level they are currently in and use the best method to help them strive to the best possible level they can achieve for the given…

In general, I believe that the best way to teach Maths/Science is in a way which the student understands the concepts rather than just giving the student a method to produce an answer, which is how these subjects are commonly taught. 1. Empathy: Understand how the student is feeling or understood a particular concept based on their behavioural and body language cues. This is because most students do not give explicit feedback. very happy with the tutor I have for my daughters. Ezy-math obviously employ top notch tutors. I cannot fault the girl we have, she has a natural ability for teaching and does it in a way that my daughters readily understand. Well worth the money as my daughters marks in both Mathematics and Chemistry have vastly improved.

Inside Princes HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Mila focused on adding and subtracting decimals as well as solving fraction problems using number lines.

For Year 9, Liam worked through quadratic equations—factoring, graphing parabolas, and translating their positions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ruby practised statistics by creating box plots and calculating mean and standard deviation from real data sets.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Maths, one student showed reluctance to write out answers for trend analysis in graph questions—"sometimes reluctant in describing the trends (which I'm sure he knows but too tired to write them down)"—leading to incomplete responses.

A Year 11 student struggled with submitting assessments on time, missing deadlines and sometimes not attempting all required tasks.

In a Year 4 session, a child forgot their textbook, which limited progress during tutoring.

Another senior student relied heavily on hints for advanced problems rather than trying multiple strategies first, often pausing whenever a new method was introduced.

Recent Achievements

One Princes Hill tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to rush through questions is now carefully writing down every step when solving quadratics, leading to fewer errors and quicker solutions.

In a recent session with a Year 9 student, the tutor saw real improvement as she started tackling worded fraction problems independently—something she hesitated with before.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who once waited for prompts has begun asking thoughtful questions about upcoming topics, showing new initiative in her learning. Last week, she asked to try material ahead of her class for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brunswick Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Princes Hill Secondary College.
