To work with a happy and motivated student allows to improve and learn in a better way. That's why a good feeling with the child is very important. Making her/his problem as mine, I can reach a full engagement with her/him. The tutor must also show security, respect, motivation and passion. I can improve her/his skills for study in order to…

The first greatest thing that tutor can do for a student is serve as a ladder for the student to progress to next level of life in any kind of circumstances and letting students to take challenges as an opportunity. In ensuring promising life for those innocent students and making them succeed in the field which I had processed with and moreover…

I believe ultimately, the most important thing a tutor can do is to create an environment where when asked "Do you understand?", the student feels free to say "Nope". This honesty is priceless and very helpful in identifying knowledge-gaps early. I pride myself on being patient. I was a slow learner, and often had questions which were ignored or…

The most important thing a tutor can do is build trust and offer consistent support. A good tutor helps a student feel heard, respected, and capable. Beyond just teaching academic content, I believe it’s about empowering students — making sure they know their struggles are valid and that improvement is always possible. Tutors should guide,…

- Make studies fun! - Prepare them for the real world and not just bookworms. - Apply the method and technique that is easier for them to grasp and understand. Every student has a different level of calibre and as a tutor, it is our duty to illustrate how to tackle them. -Boosting their self-confidence and building up a positive attitude about…

For me, the most important thing a tutor can do is help the student feel more confident — not just with the subject, but in themselves. I think we sometimes forget how big of a difference it makes when someone believes they can actually do it. I really try to celebrate the small wins — whether they’ve just understood a tough concept or even…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student go beyond just teaching content. A tutor should help a child feel capable--- when students believe in themselves, everything else becomes easier. It's important to break concepts down simply, meet students where they are, and help them move forward step by step without overwhelm.…

I think a tutor needs to be encouraging so that students can develop positive attitudes towards their studies, as that will help them succeed on their own. Furthermore it is important for a tutor to be a consistent resource for information that is relevant to their individual hurdles in learning a subject. I believe I am able to communicate the…

Make them feel comfortable enough to ask any kind of questions and the aim is that they feel confident in problem solving and tackling unfamiliar problems with ease. I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not teach them how to answer a specific question but to ensure they understand the logic behind the answering methodology. Relatability is so important. We see a huge disconnect between teachers/tutors and students. I believe that an equal playing field with mutual respect creates a unique learning environment and nurtures encouragement. The student can see how the teacher got to where they are, and can realise that they, too, can learn these concepts just as those…

Building a caring relationship in my opinion is the most important thing a tutor can do for any student. I think making students feel like they're being seen and heard is a really powerful thing, and to make clear that a tutor isn't just a fixed resource like a book or a video but someone you can interact with and learn from just from someone being there to guide you. Building the trust between the tutor and the student is what I believe it is most important. Be their friend and role model. Students have already enough to deal with in school. They need someone to listen to them and help them to clarify all their doubts. Inside PyrmontTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Poppy focused on dividing numbers using long division and began working with dividing decimals.

In Year 9, Tia tackled ratios and rates, practising real-world problem sets and reinforcing key methods for unit conversions.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Daniel worked through differentiation using the product rule and explored more challenging trigonometric function questions to deepen understanding ahead of assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 12, a student who was fully capable with application questions lost marks under exam pressure—timed conditions disrupted her usual accuracy and confidence ("under timed conditions, the pressure leads to a loss in marks").

For Year 10 algebra, skipping steps when forming equations hid small sign errors, which took extra time to find.

Meanwhile, in Year 4 maths, forgotten multiplication facts slowed down long division; revision focused only on recent topics meant earlier concepts slipped from memory.

In English (Year 9), arguments lacked focus when writing essays, leaving responses less convincing than intended.

Recent Achievements

A Pyrmont tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously struggled with worded ratio problems now tackling them independently, even adapting quickly when questions were rephrased—a big shift from needing step-by-step prompts.

In a recent session, a Year 8 student who had been hesitant to ask questions started speaking up whenever unsure and volunteered to solve practice sums on the whiteboard without prompting.

Meanwhile, a primary schooler worked through all her mensuration formula problems within the set time for the first time after having trouble finishing before; she finished strong by checking her answers herself and correcting two small errors without help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ultimo Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sydney Secondary College Blackwattle Bay Campus.
