I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is provide words of encouragement to students. When students are struggling and get bad grades, we are to remind them that they know the solutions they have studied all year round and they can always do better a grade isnt the end of the world. By encouraging and motivating students we can help…

The most important attribute a tutor can have is the ability to listen and communicate with students to find their learning style in a way that makes them feel motivated and positively reassured. I am passionate about instilling confidence in students to remove the hesitation of learning but rather build a love for the subject. The tutor must…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to build a student's confidence and change their perspective on learning. When students feel supported and understood, fear and anxiety around a subject can be replaced with curiosity and enjoyment. By helping students see that challenges are manageable, a tutor can make learning feel…

Understanding that every student moves at their own pace is crucial as a tutor. It’s important that students are reminded that learning is a process, because it can be frustrating not understanding something on the first go. This is especially important for younger students, who are still adapting to regulating their workloads. I find that the…

A tutor should be both a teacher and a role model, with the most valuable guidance lying in building confidence both academically and beyond the classroom. By providing clear support, encouragement, and education, a tutor helps students develop self-belief while working toward the student's goals. My key strength is building strong rapport with…

Create a safe and effective space for them to learn and grow academically and socially. I think both teachers and tutors can make a significant difference in young students lives and it’s important to create a safe learning space where they feel they can be their best selves and not be afraid to make mistakes in order to learn. Finding new ways…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them confident about their greatest strengths. Often times, a student with great skill will be under performing and its the tutor's job to fix that. My greatest strength is that when I am teaching, I make sure my students feel absolutely comfortable to ask me questions. And I am…

In achieving this, establishing a supportive and encouraging environment becomes essential, as it allows for a positive relationship between tutor and student. Listening to kids intently to tailor…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to be able to teach a student methods of learning. It is important not just for the student to absorb the information being taught but also for the student to be able to break down problems and information. Teaching this skill to students to then carry onto into their careers and personal lives is…

The most essential thing a tutor should do for their students is to encourage them to improve every day by ensuring that they understand the concepts clearly. I believe that a tutor should be able to help the student both grow as a person and mentally with their learning. In a hindsight, a tutor is someone they can trust and rely on with regards to getting help for homework, learning new concepts, and getting advice regarding exam and assessment task preparations. Experience was great, the tutor Neetu, is absolutely wonderful young lady. My son is so happy. Is is usually a shy boy who needs some time to get use to new people, but with Neetu, he automatically clicked, so ima extremely happy.

Inside RabyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Josh worked on addition and subtraction strategies alongside tackling basic multiplication and division, including simple inequalities.

In Year 9, Lily focused on solving linear equations—finding gradients, intercepts, and equations of straight lines—and explored the relationships between parallel and perpendicular lines.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Marcus practiced applying trigonometric ratios (sin, cos, tan) to solve for unknown angles and sides in right-angled triangles, with extra time spent revising bearings and types of triangles using diagrams.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student working on algebra and trigonometry struggled to keep track of sign changes in multi-step problems—"careless errors kept reappearing where signs were flipped mid-way," a tutor noted.

In Year 10 science, one student found it challenging to use the data from graphs when answering analysis questions, often missing marks for not referencing numbers directly.

Meanwhile, a senior maths student relied heavily on calculator inputs during complex quadratic work but made repeated mistakes entering formulas, leading to confusion about which step had gone wrong. This slowed progress and left key gaps unaddressed heading into assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Raby tutor noted a Year 11 student who, after initially struggling to connect physics concepts with real-world examples, was able to explain Newton's force equation in his own words and apply it to compare forces between different objects—something he hesitated to do previously.

In a recent high school maths session, a student who used to wait for hints started talking through her geometry problem-solving process out loud, demonstrating more independent reasoning.

Meanwhile, a younger student who often guessed days of the week now confidently recites them without prompting and has begun correcting herself when she makes mistakes.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Greg Percival Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kearns Public School.
