It is crucial a tutor creates a comfortable space for students to ask questions and express concerns. This is because tutors must understand their students problems and thus solve them. Tutors must also maintain a student's confidence as this can enhance their attitude towards studying and therefore drive the importance of school and hard work.…

I usually teach sistematically starting from explaining the material, giving example and how to answer, and then giving practice for students to…

The most important thing as a tutor is to realise that you yourself is also learning, and you should not place yourself as a superior. As a tutor, yes you have the knowledge and your job is to teach that knowledge to your student - yet this is not an invitation to feel superior. As a tutor, you are there to guide them not dictate them. At the end…

The most important thing a teacher can do for a student is to inspire confidence and a love for learning. Being patient. A lot of teachers get frustrated when students do not understand concepts the way they teach them. It is important to teach every student in their own way and be patient with the teaching process. Otherwise a student's confidence and motivation to learn is harmed. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to tailor their teaching approach to meet the individual needs of each student. For example, I work with a student who has mild ADHD and struggled with maintaining focus. To address this, I incorporated short physical activities, such as star jumps, into our sessions every 15…

I believe that a tutor is not merely someone who helps students to better understand certain materials taught at school. A tutor should be a role model both in their character and willingness to learn. A tutor should plant motivation and confidence in their students so that they believe that they can succeed in whatever areas they're lacking at,…

It is important tutors: - When possible, teach the material in a way that allows students to 'see the forest through the trees' in order for them to more effectively engage in the important details. - Teach in a way that allows for active, intuitive learning, rather than passive rote memorization. - Make students feel like they are part of a…

Inside RamsgateTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Max worked on expanding and simplifying algebraic equations, as well as revising for an upcoming English speech.

For Year 9, Olivia focused on multiplying and dividing algebraic expressions and refining TEEL paragraph writing for Romeo and Juliet.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Michael practised solving trigonometric function problems (sine, cosine, tangent) with missing values and applied these skills to real-world worded questions.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 mathematics, one student repeatedly arrived without completed homework or revision, so sessions had to revisit old material rather than progress—"I end up having to spend the next week covering what I went through the previous week," a tutor noted.

In Year 11, a different student's written algebra was disorganised; steps were missed or left unwritten, which made it hard to spot errors in exam-style questions.

Meanwhile, a primary student misplaced homework sheets and wrote on scraps instead of using the booklet provided, leading to forgotten tasks and incomplete spelling practice by the next lesson.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Ramsgate noticed a Year 11 student who previously struggled with worded exam questions is now breaking them down more independently, using her own strategies to make sense of tricky language.

Another high schooler, after initially submitting very short TEEL paragraphs, recently wrote a much longer response and managed to edit it herself without prompting.

Meanwhile, one primary student—who used to guess spelling test answers—has started quietly sounding out each word before writing and completed last week's list with no mistakes for the first time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sans Souci Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ramsgate Public School.
