Not only teach them the concepts but teach them how to study it and the principles of how to study. Telling students especially those in VCE techniques to deal with stress and that stress is natural. I think that the most significant thing a tutor can do for a student is to work with the students inherent interests and aptitudes. When I reflect on the teachers and tutors that had the biggest impact on my schooling, the individuals that stand out are the ones that recognized and challenged me in the areas I naturally gravitated towards. I…

A tutor should be able to adapt to each individual student and build a connection with a student in such a way that the student feels comfortable with the study environment and is able to learn better, without fear, unnecessary pressure or nervousness. These are some things that may often occur if a student does not get the support they require,…

Beside tutoring the knowledge, the most important thing is support. Supporting a student from not giving up in what they are doing. Life is always up and down, endure the pain and overcome the difficulties with all your might. I will motivate the student and pass on my passionate and encouragement in studying to the student I taught. I am a…

Definitely detailed explanations on the process, so a full understanding is uncovered for the student. When I was in high school, class can only teach you so much - I used to go after school to my teachers to seek help and get the deeper understanding of the content. Tutoring is there as an extra support for the student, I think it's important…

I think the most important thing for a tutor should be to work with the student, so that they can work independently. This is by teaching them the basics of a subject but also teaching them effective ways to study and learn so they are not reliant on the tutor. I think my strengths are as a tutor is I just recently completed year 12 a few months…

To me, a great tutor stands for patience, responsibility and giving the students full support where they needed. I define a patient tutor as whom give students the time and courage to think about solving problems without pressure. If I am a tutor, I am able to keep my responsibility as a tutor to find what the student really need during their…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is instill a sense of passion for the subject they're learning. I think its very important that a student changes their prespective from "this is quite hard" to "wow i really enjoy learning this". in this way, helping them enjoy and actually like learning the material allows the student to…

Student confidence is the most important thing a tutor builds through teaching them. Breaking down complex questions into small, simple parts makes it easy for students to grasp, and it also guides students to learn to solve problems independently. Maths involve numbers and logical justification, which means logical thinking and problem-solving,…

To encourage them to persevere even when they find their studies difficult. My opinion is that equipping them with the knowledge they need is only a small part of the job. I also believe it is important to encourage them and support them to allow them to succeed despite the pressures of school and the environment they may find themselves in. My…

I believe, as a prior and current student, the most important thing is for a tutor not be overbearing; to make a student comfortable while teaching them is the best way to help them grow. Truly personalise the learning. Incorporate connections to the student's interests. Teach to the student's strengths. One of the most important things that a tutor can do for their students is create a safe learning environment for them where they are not judged and can openly ask questions as I believe this will truly allow them to gain deep understanding in the content they are learning which is what I think is crucial in any learning aspect as understanding is…

I believe a good tutor is able to truly understand a student’s strengths and difficulties, fill gaps in knowledge which may be holding a student back and teach maths such that is an activity they can relate to the real world, and enjoy learning. Ultimately, a tutor is to understand the student, and helps them gain confidence in their…

I have to give 5 stars, because I can't fault the system. Arman is doing a great job with Jeremiah, who is not a perfect student. EzyMath provide great assistance with issues, and good payment options. Communications are quickly answered.
Terry, Ringwood

Inside RingwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alicia practised fractions and percentages, including converting between the two, and worked through arithmetic with decimal places and division without remainders using back-checking strategies.

In Year 10, Justin focused on probability concepts, tackling chance scenarios and representing probabilities as fractions and decimals.

For Year 11, revision for Data Analysis SACs involved interpreting statistical data sets and reinforcing understanding of summary statistics using past assessment questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 Further Maths student repeatedly hesitated when breaking down worded application questions, often needing to "stop and re-read to figure out which formula fits," as one tutor noted. This slowed progress and left her less time for harder problems in SACs.

In Year 8 algebra, another student missed steps when transposing equations—struggling to keep track of negatives and losing confidence mid-way.

Meanwhile, a Grade 6 student's tendency to rely on counting instead of quick recall with times tables meant she lost focus during multi-step division tasks, sometimes forgetting why she started the question at all.

Recent Achievements

One Ringwood tutor noticed that April, a Year 12 student, made a real leap by applying new matrix skills to tough exam questions without much prompting—something she hesitated with just weeks ago.

In another session, Chloe (Year 10) started showing her working more consistently and has begun tackling worded problems step by step rather than freezing up at first glance.

For a younger student, Matilda's attitude has shifted: where she used to clam up on anything algebraic, this week she relaxed enough to try Pythagoras' theorem for the first time and managed to solve for a triangle side independently by her third question.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Realm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of Perpetual Help School.
