I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen, and to be a pillar of support they can lean on not only in their academics, but also in their personal lives. High school can be a really stressful period for students, not only in the immense pressure that students are under but also with the dramatic shifts their minds…

I think a tutor’s responsibility is to ensure a foundational level of understanding is reached and giving the student a space to ask questions they may not in class. I am able to think about things in different ways and recognise when something isn’t working for someone. I don’t over complicate things. I believe that explaining difficult…

I think one of the most important thing a tutor does for their student is to build up their confidence for a topic they are not comfortable with and helping them become overcome whatever struggles they face in the subject. My strengths as a tutor is the fact that I can adapt my way of teaching that will suit each student, because not all students…

I believe being patience is the most important thing a tutor can do for a student, due to the fact that different student will have different learning rates. Being patient with a student doing their best to solve something shows what really makes a good tutor. I believe that I have the determination, patience and will power as a tutor which is…

I think that the most important thing a tutor can do is to not only develop the student's understanding of the content, but also to develop their self-efficacy and facilitate their own ability to analyze and break down tough concepts independently, as I think this is a skill that will continue to serve them far into the future. I think that I'm…

The most important things are: 1. Provide an environment where genuine learning is encouraged. 2. Provide an environment to enjoy what you do so that it provides the motivation for the student to succeed. 3. Act as a coach / mentor for the student rather than as a teacher. 4. Tailor your approach so that it matches the student's learning…

I think developing a friendly relationship is one of the most important things a tutor can do. By doing this, students feel more confident and happy to truly engage with their tutor, ask any questions they possibly could have, which I think ultimately leads to better learning. As a tutor, you can\'t approach each student as if they are the same person learning the same subject. Each individual has different weaknesses and strengths. For a tutor to recognise this fact is detrimental to ensuring the tutor can target each student\'s weaknesses effectively instead of wasting time. Having been a student myself, I know time…

Resilience after drawbacks. A crucial aspect a tutor can provide for a student would be shaping a student's inner monologue. Many students who may need tutoring aren't always lacking in knowledge, but rather lacking in confidence, thus having a tutor to reassure and encourage them to develop upon their self-belief. Furthermore, another important aspect would be providing…

I believe that there is no easy way in tutoring, the same as there is no easy way to get the answer. Whenever they are stuck it is our job to guide them through and companying them along. I have to give 5 stars, because I can't fault the system. Arman is doing a great job with Jeremiah, who is not a perfect student. EzyMath provide great assistance with issues, and good payment options. Communications are quickly answered.

Inside RingwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alicia practised fractions and percentages, including converting between the two, and worked through arithmetic with decimal places and division without remainders using back-checking strategies.

In Year 10, Justin focused on probability concepts, tackling chance scenarios and representing probabilities as fractions and decimals.

For Year 11, revision for Data Analysis SACs involved interpreting statistical data sets and reinforcing understanding of summary statistics using past assessment questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 Further Maths student repeatedly hesitated when breaking down worded application questions, often needing to "stop and re-read to figure out which formula fits," as one tutor noted. This slowed progress and left her less time for harder problems in SACs.

In Year 8 algebra, another student missed steps when transposing equations—struggling to keep track of negatives and losing confidence mid-way.

Meanwhile, a Grade 6 student's tendency to rely on counting instead of quick recall with times tables meant she lost focus during multi-step division tasks, sometimes forgetting why she started the question at all.

Recent Achievements

One Ringwood tutor noticed that April, a Year 12 student, made a real leap by applying new matrix skills to tough exam questions without much prompting—something she hesitated with just weeks ago.

In another session, Chloe (Year 10) started showing her working more consistently and has begun tackling worded problems step by step rather than freezing up at first glance.

For a younger student, Matilda's attitude has shifted: where she used to clam up on anything algebraic, this week she relaxed enough to try Pythagoras' theorem for the first time and managed to solve for a triangle side independently by her third question.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Realm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Our Lady of Perpetual Help School.
