Giving a student the time and attention they need to ensure they can fully understand difficult concepts. In school (and university), there were many concepts in maths and physics that I struggled with. Asking the teacher sometimes worked, but often in a busy class they couldn't give me the time I needed to talk through exactly what I was…

A tutor can do many things, but the most important one is give their students the confidence to apply what they have learned to the best of their ability. You can guide a student through a dozen practice questions, but ultimately, it is more important that they see the work as approachable and not impossible to do by themselves. As a tutor I am…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to inspire their student to succeed, to always help when they need it, and to never make them feel bad for not understanding something. Instead Tutors should be patient and understanding. As a Tutor, my strengths are my boundless enthusiasm, willingness to help others, and patience going over key…

I think one of the most important things that a tutor can do for a student is to instil confidence within them. I believe confidence is the key for all students across any level to be able to achieve their desired study outcomes. Without the belief that they have the skills and resources to succeed in any aspect they desire, students can be left…

I believe the 3 most important things a tutor can do for a student is: 1. being fluent with the content, 2. giving moral support when necessary and 3. create a sort of friendship with the student. I think my biggest strength as a tutor is to be able to teach via understanding content rather then rope learning, which i think is an imperative…

The most important thing in tutoring in my opinion is to understand your audiences and customise your approach based on that. in order to be an effective tutor, someone needs to connect to their students. Some are introverted while others are extroverted. They come with different backgrounds, confidence level, and mental abilities. In the end, a…

Remove the fear of not getting the one subject or one topic. As a teacher we must not just consider that two of our children is getting it ; but we should that why the others are not getting it . I consider understanding the student's problems and establishing a strong rapport to be the most important things. Understanding what may prevent a student from achieving as high as they want allows…

Giving a student enough time to get understand something. This could mean waiting for a student to attempt a question and ask for help, instead of helping them right away. Inside RosannaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Charlie focused on adding and subtracting fractions and prepared for an upcoming fractions test using targeted practice.

In Year 8, Emily worked through number patterns, including identifying rules and solving pattern problems involving multiplication and substitution.

For Year 11, Alex tackled least squares regression lines in statistics and reinforced understanding of data transformation concepts by working through example questions together.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 mathematics, one student regularly forgot to bring her calculator and books, which meant she lost valuable practice time in class and sometimes couldn't complete set tasks.

A Year 10 learner struggled with setting out answers clearly—her algebra steps were hard to follow, as a tutor noted: "She skipped showing working out, which hid errors."

Meanwhile, a senior student missed a lesson but did not seek help afterwards, so gaps remained before the next topic began.

In each case, organization or avoidance of visible working led to extra confusion or slower progress during lessons.

Recent Achievements

One Rosanna tutor noted a big shift in a Year 10 student who, after previously hesitating to speak up, now regularly asks for help when confused and finishes most questions without prompting.

In a senior session, Sarah from Year 12 pushed ahead of her class by tackling exam-style matrices problems—she actively asked detailed questions to clarify tricky points, something she rarely did before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student surprised her tutor by spotting number patterns independently; just weeks ago she needed step-by-step guidance for each problem but now often works through the sequences independently.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Rosanna Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rosanna Primary School.
