Give the student confidence. Confidence either to persist with the hard work till they hit a breakthrough or the confidence to thing around the problems. There are a lot of students who don't lack in talent and just a couple little things are holding them back. Solving those can really help them grow. I am able to seperate a topic into byte sized…

Building rapport and creating a safe, comfortable environment is crucial, as it encourages students to express their doubts without fear, ultimately benefiting them academically. I think a tutor can teach a student how to learn a topic after it is explained by the tutor. Because at the end, it is the student who needs to learn by themselves after something is being taught to them. A tutor should make sure that anyone can learn those topics on their own if they are introduced by the tutor. My first strength as a tutor is my…

I will consistently encourage all my students to always try, and practise, and try again, until they master whatever they were first struggling with. Their dreams become my dreams for them, so I will never let my students give up on reaching their goals. Improvements do not happen overnight, but whenever they do happen, no matter how small, I…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student go beyond simply reviewing homework. A tutor must make sure the student truly understands the 'why' behind the concepts, especially in subjects like Math, Chemistry, and Biology. Rote memorization is temporary; genuine understanding, which comes from breaking down complex ideas, is permanent.…

I consider the ability to communicate in the student's eye level to be the essential as a tutor. For example, a tutor should be able to support students based on their level of education and motivation. My strength as a tutor is my ability to communicate and explain difficult concepts as simple as possible. Also, I take tutoring as an opportunity…

The most important goal for a tutor is to spark students' interest in the subject. Tutoring is not only about assisting with a student's grade. Be an example. Be relaxed, and make the student enjoy the subject without feeling like education is be all end all. Knowledge and grades are only a means to an end, a tutor should make sure the students understand that. I can relate and communicate with students. I understand where they are coming from and what they are trying to…

One of the most important things I have realised over helping my friends in year 12 would be to walk through the question and not actually doing the question for the student. I believe it is most important for a tutor to tailor their teaching according to the needs of their student. Many students learn in different ways such as visual or through different compounding activities to build a strong foundation before moving on to more difficult concepts. I believe being able to teach a student in the way that is most…

Inside Rose ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Naethan revised index laws and practised simplifying fractions for his upcoming test.

In Year 10, Emma tackled quadratic equations by practising completing the square and applying these methods to real-life problem-solving.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah focused on Unit 1 Psychology, reviewing main theories in biological psychology and consolidating key vocabulary and concepts in preparation for her assessment.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7 mathematics, one student often completed fraction calculations mentally rather than writing out steps. As noted, "mistakes are barely detected and noticed when you go back and check," leading to lost marks even though the concepts were understood.

In a senior maths session, a student arrived without their calculator or textbook, making it difficult to attempt assigned tasks.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 learner hesitated to use the method requested by exam questions—opting for shortcuts instead—and missed key working that teachers look for in marking schemes.

Each of these habits resulted in avoidable confusion or missed opportunities during lessons.

Recent Achievements

One Rose Park tutor noticed a Year 10 student who used to wait for help now takes initiative with challenging maths problems, trying them independently before asking questions.

In Year 11, Ariana recently completed all her assigned tutoring homework and managed to solve quadratic equations using different strategies without guidance—something she found confusing just weeks ago.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student has started eagerly discussing the concepts from her reader in sessions, moving from passive listening to sharing her ideas and questions about the text.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Norwood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Rose Park Primary School.
