The most important thing a tutor can do is improve the confidence of the student. The most important thing to have when walking into an exam is confidence. With great confidence comes greater problem solving skills, and greater creativity. Hence, I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is make the student more comfortable and confident…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to build a student’s confidence and independence. Of course, explaining the content clearly is essential, but more than that, it’s about helping students feel capable and supported. I try to show them that it’s okay to not understand something the first time, and that learning is a…

I believe that a tutor's primary responsibility is to assist students in understanding and accepting new ideas and concepts through well-planned classes and by responding to any queries they may have. It's crucial to listen to the kids since it allows you to get to know them better and identify any misconceptions they may have. First off, math is…

A tutor can help improve a student in academic success. In a classroom setting a teacher has to cover a specific amount of content within a particular time period, some students can pick up the content very easily while others may lag behind on the content. A tutor however solves this issue by understanding the student's strengths and weaknesses…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is build the student’s confidence, not just help them get the answer. A good tutor should be patient, supportive, and able to explain concepts clearly step by step. It is also important to create a comfortable environment where the student feels safe to make mistakes, ask questions, and slowly…

A tutor can guide the student onto the right path in leanring. It's not about giving them the asnwer direclty. It's helping them understand the question and how to reach the answer so they can do it for themseleves. Communication from my previous experience in debating and public speaking. I believe encouraging progress and development is more important than emphasis on getting the correct answers. This ensures an actual understanding of concepts and more effective retention of information I think that I am extremely patient and a good communicator. It is essential that the student feels comfortable learning, and as a tutor I think it is our job to achieve this. Not only should the student feel relaxed while in class, they should start to gain interest in what they are learning. I think at least a tutor can do on the practical aspect is to help the student achieve their goals, lead them and…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is act as a motivation for them to achieve their personal best. Although raising marks is the main objective for tutors, they must be able to interact with the students and find their weak points and there is a limit to what they can teach. They must act as a pillar that can support their…

I believe that a tutor is not merely someone who helps students to better understand certain materials taught at school. A tutor should be a role model both in their character and willingness to learn. A tutor should plant motivation and confidence in their students so that they believe that they can succeed in whatever areas they're lacking at,…

The most important thing is for a tutor to understand a student's preferences and what sort of teaching style would suit them. Different people have different learning suitabilities. Thus, a tutor should be able to adapt to suit the student's learning cues. My biggest strengths would be patience, determination, and the willingness to go above and…

A tutor's job isn't to be a second teacher's to be a bridge. The most important thing a tutor can do is build confidence by turning complexity into something manageable. That means creating an environment where mistakes aren't failures but stepping stones, where questions are welcomed, and where the student feels supported enough to try, think,…

I believe it is important to address the student's main academic concerns by understanding their goals and deriving a plan to achieve those goals. Following which, it will be essential to chart the student's progress and be flexible in changing the lesson programs to enable targetted improvement. I believe that making students understand the way to answer question is very important. Problem-solving skills are what they really need in the future instead of helping him to solve them. Moreover, to make them enjoy studying the subject is crucial as well. If you hate the subject, you can never do well on it. Providing students with guidance is…

Inside RoseberyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Abby focused on measurement, practising area of circles and surface area of solids through school-aligned worksheets.

For Year 10, Sunny worked on graphing functions and was introduced to trigonometry, including proving problems with algebraic exercises.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Nathan revised quadratic equations using the discriminant (delta method) and tackled transformation of parabolas by finding intersections between parabolas and lines.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, a student sometimes avoided showing working for absolute value problems with multiple absolute signs; as one tutor noted, "she needed help organizing her steps in proving exercises to avoid confusion and hidden errors."

Meanwhile, a Year 9 English learner struggled to expand ideas clearly in creative writing—rushed sentence structure left her responses feeling disjointed under timed conditions.

In Year 7 Maths, careless sample space identification affected conditional probability questions: "sometimes got the sample space wrong," observed the tutor, leading to incorrect answers on card deck tasks. After setbacks, visible frustration lingered during practice sessions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Rosebery noticed Sunny, a high school student, now sketches function graphs independently—last term she needed constant prompting for each step.

Another Year 10 student, Ismail, has started completing short algebra quizzes within the set time and gets most answers correct; previously he would leave questions unfinished or need hints to continue.

In a recent session with a younger student, their approach to fractions changed: instead of guessing, they worked through improper-to-mixed conversions out loud and checked their own steps before moving on. The session finished with them tackling harder fraction problems without hesitation.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mascot Library (incl. the George Hanna Memorial Museum)—or at your child's school (with permission), like Gardeners Road Public School.
