Being able to give the best explanations suited to strengths and weaknesses of the student, bridging connections to subjects they are not confident in and being an excellent listener to the student. I believe the latter is part of a crucial foundation of successful tutoring as there can be many misconceptions and errors made, which can lead to…

Removing the feeling of being intimidated to learn something that looks extremely complex. The amount of specific terminology in physics, maths and even english to a extent stops many people from pursing them long term or to a higher level or convinces students they are incapable of learning it. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do…

Tutor's should prioritise the relationship between the student and their learning. To be consistently achieving learning goals and improving their overall knowledge, students have to a hold passion and love for their work. Its their tutor's job to build a space where the individual builds an interest and passion to learn. Therefore, working step…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to not only help them understand the lessons, but assist them in the development of individual thought. Being patient in allowing students to fully grasp a topic or idea before proceeding. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not only to clearly and effectively teach content but also to share their knowledge and their own personal experiences from the past. I believe that all providers of education should not only prepare a student for an exam, but to open the student's eyes to the wider world, where they can explore their passions. In this way, I consider confidence an important aspect that a tutor can provide to a student. School can sometimes feel so impossible, when sitting in a large classroom…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is provide them with a mentally safe and open environment, in which they feel no question or form of validation is undeserving. Inside RuseTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Oliver worked through algebraic equations, focusing on simplifying and expanding expressions, and revisited past exam questions to strengthen his understanding of minus signs in equations.

For Year 8, the session with John covered perimeter calculations for composite shapes and involved estimating and converting between different measurement units like meters and centimeters.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 lesson with Emily focused on mastering long division alongside developing confidence with decimal place value using targeted practice exercises.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student repeatedly relied on mental maths in algebra and fractions, skipping written working—this led to errors with negatives and simplification. As a tutor noted, "she needs to show working out during questions to reduce silly mistakes."

In Year 7, one student left homework incomplete and rarely reviewed feedback; missed practice meant concepts like long division never quite stuck.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner hesitated to write answers for fear of getting them wrong, erasing attempts instead of using feedback—so progress slowed when new spelling or times tables appeared. A single missed step often turned into lost marks or confidence.

Recent Achievements

One Ruse tutor noticed a big change in Oliver, a high schooler who used to hesitate with algebra—he now works through equation problems without pausing and even picked out his own exam mistakes before the tutor stepped in.

In another session, Misheel, also in high school, flagged tricky homework questions on her own instead of skipping them and completed almost everything else accurately.

A Year 4 student who once struggled to follow text now reads entire book chapters aloud with only a few missed words and placed fractions correctly on number lines by himself.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Campbelltown City Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ruse Public School.
