I belive the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be understanding. Every student is different, and it is important they do not feel discriminated or inferior for doing things differently to how others might. As a tutor, it is important that we build a respectful and trustworthy relationship with the student that enables them to…

It is to emphatize and to have patience with the student. Not everyone has the same learning curve. Other people learn faster than the others. It is common to get frustrated when your student is not understanding what you are trying to teach him/her, however, do not let your students feel and see that. It may not only hurt their self-confidence…

The most important thing for a tutor is to always be interested in the students life and to remember the small details that they may mention. A good tutor should also act as a mentor in some capacity and offer advice when reasonable. I am able to explain concepts from different angles in order to mold with how the student learns best. I always try…

The most crucial role of a tutor is not just imparting knowledge but doing so in a way that resonates, ensuring lasting understanding. Beyond mere facts, it's about enlightening minds on a profound level, fostering the ability to connect the dots independently. A tutor should guide students to a point where they grasp concepts deeply, enabling…

A tutor is a mentor for his students. For a tutor, it is necessary to have full knowledge of that field he/she is teaching. In most areas, its a misconception that tutors are there to help students in coming first in every aspect related to studies. But that's not true, in my opinion, tutors can only give knowledge of any particular subject/sector…

Inside SchofieldsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Riya focused on structuring multi-digit equations neatly and practiced multiplication with two-digit numbers, then completed a spelling test to reinforce her English skills.

In Year 8, Shreya worked through long division using the "bus stop" method and explored figurative writing techniques, applying them in paragraph writing for English.

For Year 10, Ethan tackled algebraic linear equations—solving them step by step—and reviewed key concepts from recent school tests to strengthen his understanding before upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 Science, one student hesitated to write lab reports quickly and struggled to analyze information independently—"needs to analyse and write any information given," noted a tutor—which slowed progress during experiments.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student in Chemistry had difficulty recalling formulas for balancing equations without prompts, often leaving related homework incomplete.

In Mathematics (Year 9), forgetting basic conversion rules led to confusion when tackling fractions and decimals; the student "gets confused where to divide and multiply."

A primary learner avoided rechecking answers in multiplication tasks, missing small sign errors that lingered into new work.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Schofields noticed Arham, a high school student, taking real initiative by asking questions when stuck and checking her own mistakes instead of waiting for prompts—something she used to avoid.

Alhena, also in high school, managed to solve tricky worded math problems independently after previously struggling with them, especially around fractions and decimals.

For a younger learner, Huyan's reading sessions became much more focused once he was allowed to read his favourite rap song; now he persists through unfamiliar words rather than giving up quickly, even reading out loud whole phrases from the lyrics without hesitation.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Vinegar Hill Memorial Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Schofields Public School.
