According to me, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to hold his hand and guide him in the most suitable way such that the student falls in love with the subject. I always believe that it is the tutor that determines a student's interest in a particular subject. The strengths in me as a tutor includes the ability to guide…

The most important thing is finding the strongest point of a student and upgrading that. With me, everyone has their own strengths, and it is crucial to exploit and develop those strengths. I always encourage my students to have confidence in themselves when solving their study problems. Additionally, I structure my lessons as conversations with…

An important aspect of tutoring is not hindering the student's creativity. I believe every student has a different learning style. If a student requires additional assistance, the tutor is responsible for identifying it and providing extra support, while being patient with them. It is our responsibility to encourage students to be creative with…

I think a tutor's first goal should be to build a relationship and trust with each student by giving them individualized help and attention. And make the learning experience more unique by taking into account the student's interests, and highlighting their strengths while attempting to strengthen their weaknesses. And ultimately assist students in…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them confident in the skills they develop in a subject and be independent in answering questions by themselves. Being patient, considerate, and targeting the student's needs and challenges in the subject. I am also very good at helping students point out their mistakes and teaching…

I believe the most important things that a tutor can do for a student mainly relies on what the end goal of the student is. If it is just to get the homework done, it will get done. But, for me as a tutor, I would personally make sure that every student understands the concept from the beginning rather than providing a general overview. I believe…

It's important that a tutor can put themselves in their students shoes while teaching. Teaching others can be very frustrating, especially when they can't understand it the first time around but that isn't their fault. They are also trying hard and for most people, it takes one or two times to wrap their head around something they can't grasp and…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to build the student's confidence, make the material engaging, and encourage independent thinking. First, confidence is key-students often need someone to believe in their abilities and help them overcome any doubts or setbacks. A tutor should also aim to make learning interesting by connecting…

I think a tutor should have at least some level of personal connection with the student. A tutor should always motivate students to try their hardest, and also engage them into the subject as much possible. The ability to understand, to some extent at least whether the student has understood that paricular concept or…

A tutor should educate a student in the required content and keeping the student engaged, whilst still ensuring that the session is enjoyable, and fulfilling. To achieve this, a tutor should obviously be diligent in teaching, which includes preparing content and lessons beforehand, as well as consistently asking the student for feedback to guide…

The skill of empathy towards a student is possibly one of the most important things a tutor should be equipped with, in that they need to recognise that while you're an expert on the material, the student is learning it for the first time. Thus, tutors like myself need to be able to present concepts that the student can understand, i.e., using…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make the student understand in a easy and comfortable way, even if the tutor has to repeat it so many times for them. I think, the main part is understanding. Tutor should help students in understanding of the concepts and their purpose. Secondly, tutor should be understanding, so that he/she serves students according to their needs as different students have different ways of visualising things. Thirdly, tutor should help in planning of the subject so that…

Inside SilverwaterTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student worked on multiplication and division skills, including strategies for long division using step-by-step written methods.

Year 8 student, Jessica, focused on algebra—specifically expanding and simplifying expressions as well as a brief introduction to factorisation.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student revised laws of indices and exponents by identifying patterns in number theory questions from the curriculum.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often skipped writing steps in algebra, especially with negatives and surds—"he preferred to do it in his head," one tutor observed—leading to sign errors that took extra time to correct.

In Year 12, unfinished homework meant valuable lesson time was spent catching up on questions instead of tackling new calculus topics; late submissions were sometimes due to outside commitments like sport or camp.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student struggled with remembering trigonometry formulas after switching topics, making it hard to apply concepts during practice tests.

These moments left students feeling behind just as new material was introduced.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Silverwater recently noticed a Year 11 student who, after previously struggling with exam errors, now spots and corrects "silly mistakes" on his own—he fixed about a quarter of his latest paper without prompting.

In another session, a Year 10 student who once left homework unfinished has started submitting it consistently and even asks for clarification when stuck, rather than guessing or staying silent.

Meanwhile, a younger student who used to need help with multi-digit addition can now solve sums like 23+28 independently by remembering to carry forward—a step he often missed before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ermington Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Newington Public School.
