Psychology Tutor Coburg, VIC
Everybody learns differently, and trying to apply the same approach to everyone is going to leave students struggling and frustrated. I adapt my teaching style to the way a student learns, and don't enforce a certain way of thinking - instead, I equip them with the tools to approach any problem in a way that works for them. I have two years'…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to listen to them. To ask and listen to what the student needs in order to understand difficult concepts goes a long way in ensuring students receive the most out of their sessions. I frequently ask my students if they prefer various ways of me teaching (worksheets, games, verbal…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is equipping the student with the resources and tips they need to be able to be good and excel at a subject. Especially in english, it is important for the student to have the knowledge and analytical way of thinking to really excel and i think once they have been taught how to think this way they…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are build a student's confidence, provide clear guidance, and adapt their teaching to suit the student's learning style and needs. A tutor may have strong subject knowledge, but if they cannot explain concepts in a way the students understand, the learning will not be effective. Creating a…

One of the most important things a teacher can do for their student is to listen. Not to listen to think of the next response but to listen to understand. I believe as a teacher listening specifically to WHAT the student is asking not HOW they are asking it is one of the most valuable and important skills I've learned to develop. When a student is…

A tutor should build confidence, provide clear guidance, and equip students with strategies so they can succeed independently beyond the session. My strengths are clear communication, patience, and the ability to explain concepts in structured, exam-focused ways that suit different learning…

The best thing a tutor can do is to listen carefully and empathise with their students. Learning can be very difficult and it is very helpful, for a tutor, to realise that each individual has their own learning style, motivation, and attitudes towards any subject. Most importantly learner's wellbeing should be an important factor when tutoring. I…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is approaching the student as the centre. The tutor must have an attention to detail to be able to recognise both strengths and weaknesses, and tailor lessons or questions when needed. A tutor must also understand the needs of each student. As a past education student and currently a psychology…

Tutors are someone students can rely on for academic assistance. I recognise that the role of tutors is to aid students in their educational pathways and help students in realising their true academic capabilities, constantly providing constructive feedback for areas of improvement. It is also important to have understanding as the VCE process is…

Be respectful and patient. It's essential to understand the students' needs and preferred methods of learning, as everyone's habits are so different. It's best to approach the lessons with the student's perspective in mind. I am a patient, down-to-earth person who prefers having a friendly relationship with the student so that they will feel…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is help a student feel like they can actually handle the work on their own. It Is easy to just give someone the answers, but that doesn't help them in the long run. Since I'm majoring in psychology, I try to focus on building their confidence and helping them get past that "mental block" where they…

A tutor is someone who is there for the student and always willing to help them succeed. They do this by understanding the student's goals and adjusting their learning style to better suit the student's needs. Hi, my name is Marta and I recently completed a Bachelor of Applied Science (Psychology) (Honours) at RMIT University with a grade of…

Inside Strathmore HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Jonas focused on multiplication and subtraction strategies, working through examples to strengthen his calculation skills.

In Year 8, Louis reviewed negative numbers and basic algebra, using practice problems to build confidence with equations involving negatives.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Emily tackled linear equations in two variables and quadratic equations, focusing on factorisation techniques and applying them to exam-style questions for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 Mathematics, one student frequently rushed through algebra steps, leading to sign errors and missed marks; as noted, "he needs to slow down sometimes and follow the steps."

For a Year 11 English assignment, another student didn't realize an essay required 100 words—skipping instructions due to not checking task requirements.

In Year 7 Maths, forgetting basic materials or over-relying on mental maths left gaps in recalling negative number rules.

Meanwhile, a primary student working on reading would skip lines of text and misread punctuation, which made understanding stories harder and slowed their progress during sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Strathmore Heights tutor noticed a Year 9 student who previously got stuck with negative numbers now working through these problems much more smoothly, only occasionally needing reminders.

In another session, a high schooler took the initiative to start writing down new vocabulary and definitions during reading—something he'd resisted before—which helped him read an entire stave without stopping for help.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 5 surprised her tutor by explaining each error she found in her own narrative and even started sharing thoughtful opinions about her book club novel "Wonder."

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glenroy Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Strathmore North Primary School.
