It's important to be able to explain concepts clearly and ensure that the student understands the concept. I also think it's important to lead by example and encourage healthy study techniques (such as showing working out, writing full sentences etc). You not only impart knowledge to them but also good study ethic. I'm an active listener, which is…

It makes the student feel appreciated and allows a relaxed, productive, friendly and positive workspace to form. I believe that one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student, is to help them build confidence in their own academic abilities by supporting them in a way that reinforces their sense of self achievement. It is also important for a tutor to reinforce and support the student's classroom learning, beyond set homework and assignments…

A tutor provide the necessary help to the students which aid them in pursuing their interest easily. Moreover, a tutor can provide special attention to the child even as many times as the student needs. A successful tutuor does more than merely help a student to raise their grade. In my opinion, a tutor should make an impression on a student. Having had the privilege of being led by an inspirational tutor in the early stages of my High School experience, I seek to emulate this role, by sharing with students the importance of learning. A…

I believe it is most important to build a student's confidence. Once they believe they can achieve things on their own, and develop an interest in the subject, higher grades will follow. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is leaving them with a range of tools for study that they can use on their own at school or if I’m not around. The student being able to use study techniques that I have taught them on their own accord is what I would aim to achieve. My strengths as a tutor would have to be my…

I believe a tutor's role is to guide, facilitate and provide feedback on the student's own work. It is essential that the student independently develops the skills necessary to become competent. A tutor's role in this process is to encourage the student to explore their own knowledge, and provide tips to consolidate their understanding, and make…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to show that they believe in them and their ability to succeed academically and overall. Inside SubiacoTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 9 student Sophia worked through division of fractions and simple interest problems, then tackled introductory trigonometry with guided practice.

For Year 10, Ethan completed a review of quadratic functions and practised trig questions from Chapter 11 using diagrams to reinforce concepts.

In Year 11, Chloe focused on dividends and price-earnings ratios in financial maths, also comparing share prices with real-world examples for context.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly avoided writing out working in algebra, which made it hard to catch sign errors—"I suggested she write each step," the tutor noted.

In Year 12 Chemistry, one student struggled with organizing notes and remembering formulas without looking them up, so tests were planned at lesson start to check recall.

A tired Year 9 learner lost focus during revision and gave up on multi-step problems; snack breaks helped regain attention but progress slowed.

Another senior English student skipped practicing timed essays and left homework incomplete, leading to repeated pauses when structuring arguments under pressure.

Recent Achievements

One Subiaco tutor noticed a Year 10 student who, after weeks of hesitating to ask for help, started speaking up mid-lesson when she got stuck—making it much easier to clarify tricky algebra steps together.

A Year 12 student who previously mixed up integration techniques is now confidently choosing the right method and can sketch derivatives without prompting, showing real independence in her calculus work.

In a recent session with a Year 4 student, the tutor observed that he's begun using the number line unprompted for negative integers and managed several challenging questions solo by the end of their lesson.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Subiaco Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Subiaco Primary School.
