To create a supportive, encouraging environment where they feel safe to make mistakes and grow. Human connection is the foundation of effective learning. In a world flooded with online resources and AI-driven tools, what students often lack isn't access to information, but meaningful guidance. Tutors bring the human element back into learning by…

In my view, the paramount role of a tutor is to cultivate a learning environment filled with patience and empathy. By recognising the challenges students may encounter along their learning journey and demonstrating empathy towards these obstacles, a positive and supportive environment is created between the student and tutor. This allows me to…

I opine that understanding the IQ and how to upgrade it is the key responsibility of a mentor. It is also imperative that a tutor should be patient if a child is not understanding a question and try to explore new ways to make it clear. I am very loving and patient as I know kids take time to understand the key concepts. Non-judgemental is the key…

According to me its the patience as I believe that every student has a different level of capabilities and it is up to the tutor to act accordingly and make a curriculum which is the best fit for the student. My strengths right now are my patience, enthusiasm, and friendliness. I believe these skills will help me greatly in this role as I will be…

The most important things that a tutor can do for a student that always actively listen to a student and understand lives they live. I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to have them gain confidence with themselves in terms of excelling in school. I think this confidence is important in not just getting high marks in quizzes and tests, but I believe that being confident will help them long-term in solving problems not just in school, even though…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their students, is to be their friends. It helps providing the students an environment where they can enjoy what they are studying. It helps in eliminating rote learning, which kills the entire joy and purpose of learning and education. My great knowledge and interest in subjects like Math and Physics…

Create a comfortable, relaxed environment to learn and ask questions. Improve confidence: many students don't know what they're capable of, and just need the self-belief to show it off. Be able to react to a student's needs as they develop and progress in order to continue learning as efficiently as possible. I believe I am relatable and good…

I believe the single most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide patient and constant support for them outside of their classroom, and try to clear all their doubts effectively. Moreover, a tutor should guide their students in a manner in which they can focus on key areas of improvement and then work on realistic goals, which…

The most important thing for a tutor is that they explicitly explain concepts to a student. This should be done in a way that makes the most intuitive sense to the student. Also, for me, it is essential that a tutor, as well as teaching students, teaches them how to study by themselves and how to teach themselves. This should be done by providing…

The most important thing a teacher can teach a student is something about how they learn best, like what techniques, environements, etc. they need to learn effectively. Fantastic help to my daughter across biology and maths. As well as the technical aspect has been brilliant for her confidence in the HSC year. Highly recommended.
Annie, Summer Hill

Inside Summer HillTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ruby focused on multiplying fractions by whole numbers and consolidating times tables knowledge.

In Year 8, Sam worked through solving trigonometric equations with domain restrictions and explored the general domain and range of functions using graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Jack practiced finding intersections of linear lines by solving simultaneous equations and reinforced skills in graphing linear equations accurately.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 trigonometry, skipping the combination of transformations and domain/range meant errors crept into graphing tasks—"struggled to combine and utilise both transformations," a tutor observed.

A Year 9 student repeatedly forgot algebraic simplification rules, especially when incorrectly canceling terms, slowing progress on simultaneous equations.

For a Year 6 learner, confusion about measurement conversions persisted; even after practice, confidence lagged when converting units in problem sets.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student hesitated to attempt worded problems independently and stayed quiet when confused in probability lessons. This led to missed opportunities for feedback and slower growth in reasoning skills.

Recent Achievements

A Summer Hill tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to get distracted is now working through macroeconomics discussion questions with genuine focus and is contributing ideas, not just listening passively.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student who previously hesitated to ask for help with simultaneous equations has started speaking up as soon as she's unsure—last session, she finished all her graphing problems without prompting.

In primary years, one student who would often guess at answers in maths is now stopping to check his reasoning out loud before moving on; last lesson he completed his entire perimeter worksheet correctly.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ashfield Municipal Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Patrick's Catholic Primary School.
