Next is polishing the student's skills with extensive exercises while making sure he has time for other hobbies. It helps if the tutor is aware of things such as fun interactive quizzes or videos that helps makes concepts seem simpler while also keeping…

I believe it's important for tutors to ensure that their students see them as a not only in a 'teacher' role, but someone they could look to advice if they ever feel the need - like a role model, or a mentor. Tutors should help their students gain confidence in their ability to achieve their goals, and by establishing small, achievable milestones…

A tutor should realize that once upon a time, they themselves were a student who must have struggled with certain subjects and also fared well in certain other subjects. And they should realize from their own experience how much of a difference can a good teacher bring into the lives of students. A good tutor will leverage their own experience as…

Genuinely understanding the students need and tailoring the best approach of teaching accordingly is the best thing a chemistry tutor can do. Inside CanterburyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Harper worked on adding and subtracting decimals, as well as dividing decimals using school homework tasks.

In Year 9, Ivy focused on expanding and simplifying algebraic expressions before moving to trigonometric identities and exact values in later sessions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ben concentrated on trigonometry ratios—including the sine, cosine, and area of a triangle formulas—and then began introductory work with calculus concepts.

Recent Challenges

Homework completion and organization stood out across both primary and senior years.

In Year 7, "Ben needs to do the homework that has been given to him, especially if he continues not to do his school homework very frequently," which left basic algebraic routines feeling unfamiliar in sessions.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 student repeatedly arrived without essential materials: "Needs to show up with his calculator and a pencil case to our lessons."

In senior maths (Year 11), failing to bring a maths book or calculator led to wasted lesson time retracing work instead of tackling exam-style problems.

Each lapse made it harder for skills to become automatic.

Recent Achievements

A Canterbury tutor noticed Ben, a high school student, has become much quicker and more accurate at tackling complex maths questions—he now works through challenging problems independently after previously hesitating on multi-step tasks.

Ivy, also in high school, started using a new note-taking strategy; she's not only understanding algebraic concepts better but now decodes tricky questions with less frustration than before.

Meanwhile, Harper in Year 6 pushed past her initial struggles with converting mixed numerals to fractions—by the end of her session, she confidently completed several conversions without any prompting from her tutor.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Earlwood Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Canterbury Public School.
