I think first and foremost is adaptability. 2. Discipline comes after once you get adapted. 3. Communication with easing out the complex concepts. 4. Listening their problems and catering on them. 5. A teacher has to be patient while working with a student 6. At last but not least, humility is one of the most important thing when it comes…

Provide alternative ways to understand concept when students are finding difficulties in learning from them in school. As a tutor, I think some of my strengths are patience - a tutor must be patient with their student - a student is only as good as their teacher, under standing, and…

Remove the fear of not getting the one subject or one topic. As a teacher we must not just consider that two of our children is getting it ; but we should that why the others are not getting it . A tutor can do many things, but the most important one is give their students the confidence to apply what they have learned to the best of their ability. You can guide a student through a dozen practice questions, but ultimately, it is more important that they see the work as approachable and not impossible to do by themselves. As a tutor I am…

Giving a student the time and attention they need to ensure they can fully understand difficult concepts. In school (and university), there were many concepts in maths and physics that I struggled with. Asking the teacher sometimes worked, but often in a busy class they couldn't give me the time I needed to talk through exactly what I was…

The most important features what a Tutor can do to a Student are a) Give the confidence that he or she can do it, self belief is the most important thing for any person doing any task let alone a student who is starting his/her academic career b) Understand that a students mind/mood will not be same everyday and understand his/her strength…

I consider openness and willingness to hear out students' problems at the earliest possible moment to ensure that a student feels confident with something they may initially be unfamiliar with and are about to dive deeper in to be one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student. As a tutor, I believe I have a strong ability and…

Providing the student with adequate knowledge and information about what he's doing while studying and what he can do with his learning. This is what every tutor does and should do. In my opinion, the most important quality of a tutor is flexibility. While the concepts are the same, our teaching methods, the way we deliver it to each students differs. We need to cater for each student's need and ability. The ultimate goal is to inspire the students and initiate them to challenge themselves. Since I've once struggled with…

A good tutor must be able to understand the needs of the student. Every students has his/her own level and it is very important for a good tutor to recognise that level. Once I recognise that level, I start with that level and along with teaching and explaining I always try to involve the students as much as possible in learning through various…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is to inspire confidence in the student. It's not just about teaching concepts, but helping the student believe in their own ability to understand and apply them. A good tutor should adapt their methods to suit each students learning style, making lessons clear, engaging, and enjoyable. It's also…

One of the most essential ingredients is chemistry. A good tutor will take the time to connect meaningfully with the student and their families. They will be caring and compassionate, but also professional and organized. Having a good rapport with the student will move a tutor from good to great. A tutor should be able to identify the weaknesses and strengths of a student and lift their confidence first. An excellent tutor has patience to work with the student until the student's needs are achieved. Giving positive feedback when they present their work, which will then stimulate their work ethic. I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is share their passion for the subject. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is not to assess them purely based on their ability to memorize and reciprocate information, or to try to teach them in the same way as every other student, but to adjust and be understanding that every student has a different learning capacity, and adapt to each student to ensure they get the…

Inside Surrey HillsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Tom focused on advanced financial maths, tackling reducing balance loans and effective interest rates, and worked through the steps of respiration in Biology.

Year 11 student Olivia reviewed matrix operations including inverses and scalar multiplication, then applied these to communication networks using diagrams for clarity.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Liam practised solving quadratic equations by both factorising and graphing, building fluency with real examples from his textbook.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly hesitated to start worded and application questions, often unable to choose which formula or process was required—on her quadratics test, she left many questions blank unless prompted.

Heavy reliance on the calculator emerged in statistics; when asked to interpret answers without technology, confusion set in: "she struggled with questions that could not be directly done on her calculator."

In Year 8 algebra, one student's working became hard to follow as he crossed out and wrote over steps, occasionally losing marks despite correct answers.

During a Year 7 session, another learner gave up quickly if shortcuts weren't available and avoided writing full working, stalling progress on multi-step problems.

Recent Achievements

A Surrey Hills tutor recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to hesitate with surds now breaking them down and simplifying on her own, even catching her own mistakes—something she'd struggled with before.

In a Year 12 session, a student who previously mixed up types of interest began confidently interpreting finance graphs and distinguishing between accrued and charged interest during exam-style questions.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student showed new independence by asking for extra explanation on probability concepts rather than guessing quietly, which hadn't happened in earlier sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Balwyn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Surrey Hills Primary School. Contact us at Ezy Math Tutoring Surrey Hills, 6a Bentley St, Surrey Hills VIC 3127, (03) 9008 7011
